I currently have a turn signal switch that is for cruise and delay wipers. Can I install a switch without the cruise control and still have it function for the wipers, high beams, and signals correctly?

Asking because I am not using the cruise control and I never will.

Jim,
You can use the turn signal switch, just remove the cruise function. It just entails removing the stalk, unhooking the cruise control cable connection and slide it thru the column. Then install a non-cruise stalk. That's pretty much what I'm using. The cruise control is on a separate circuit, if you will. It doesn't affect the other functions, pulse, turn signals, high beams, etc.

Can this be replaced without pulling the steering wheel? Mine is broke at the plastic/molding just near the column

I'm pretty sure you can slide the wire thru without pulling the steering wheel. The two prong end could get caught while sliding it thru. If the cruise switch is not going to be reused, or scrapped, you can always cut the connector off at he end and that will make it slide out easier.

Is there any reason to replace it if the only reason is you're not going to use it? Like a defroster switch down here in the south. If you don't use it, it's still there. You just choose not to operate it. I haven't used one on my G-bodies in like, forever.

If you want it gone to clean up the look, or if your old stalk is hosed, then by all means.

How I would do it? Yank the stalk out of the wiper switch. Straight out. Not at an angle to the switch or you risk cracking the inner sleeve of the wiper switch. You don't even want to know the cost of that replacement. There's an actuator that's spring loaded that pushes on a curvy-bent rod that extends down to the column to the dimmer switch itself. The wiper switch also pivots to operate the turn signals. It's quite a neat little setup, really. But if it doesn't all go right, it can be a PITA to fix.

Cut the cruise wiring right there next to the column opening. Get under dash and unplug the cruise wire plug and pull the wiring for it straight out the bottom of the column housing.

Install the non-cruise switch you prefer. Changing the stalk has no effect on dimmer/wipers or turn signal operation. Unless you break something.

Thanks guys. Knowing I can use either is great!

I've had these columns apart in the past, and I agree, it's great time (sarcastic). I'm going to give it a pull and see what happens ;)
