Someone pulled out in front of me and t bone happened. (Twas not my fault) but I want to try to look at the bright side. This is a 1979 el camino. I want to replace the hood with like a cowel or something. But what I really want is a phantom grill. They only make them for 82-87 i know. My question is. Can I put the later years front clip on this car. (My concern is the fenders also being different)

If your fenders weren’t destroyed, you don’t have to replace them. I’d check local laws. In Pa. nothing is allowed to cover the lights.

The 'header panel' that contains the grille & lighting group is separate from the hood & fenders. The later front panels can interchange w/earlier versions but I'm betting that one was modified to allow the 'phantom grille' insert.

I know the guy that owns that El Camino, but haven't seen him on the forums in years. I'm sure whoever made his custom tube grille could make one for a '78-'79 header panel....or '80-'81 as well.

I hope the insurance company doesn't claim the fiberglass bumper didn't affect the integrity of the bumper to reduce the damage to the headlight, fenders and grill....etc....

I found out it bolts directly onto the the newer header panel. So the radiator support will also work with a new style header panel. Or will that need to be updated

I only see one on ebay for a 82 through 87. My plan is to replace my header panel with a late model one. And go with round headlights as well with the phantom grill.

No they won't. It was only 25 mph crash. The damage surprisingly wasn't that bad. Yea all glass up front is ruined but replaceable

Actually, the only custom tube grilles I've seen for our type cars were for the '82 up header panel.
