Mounting hydraulic slave cylinder

I’m converting from auto trans to 5 speed in my 78 el Camino. I’ve purchased a complete kit but can’t figure out where to mount the cylinder on the drivers side firewall. Any help would be great. If you’ve done this conversion and can provide some advice I’d really appreciate it. Pictures would be a plus. Thanks, John

Do you mean the clutch master cylinder that connects to the clutch pedal?

Yes, slave cylinder is what the part is labeled as. Any advice? The kit came with a bracket but it’s not going to work without a bunch of mods.

It goes here, drill out the dimples and install. You will need to put a doubler on the firewall or it will crack

On automatic cars with cruise control there is a
1 7/16/' hole. This hole is centered between
the other two dimples.

Thanks, I haven’t removed the brake booster. It appears that the hole you’re talking about is under the booster? Once you have the hydraulic cylinder installed, does the booster reinstall without hitting the cylinder underneath? Any chance you have a picture of the hydraulic cylinder installed? This helps a lot. Thanks again

For future reference, the master attaches to the pedal and operates the slave that pushes (or pulls) the fork.

BUT, this is 2020; YOU CAN'T BE TALKIN' LIKE THAT NO MORE!

You will need to remove the brake booster to install a firewall doubler and it will not interfere with the master clutch cylinder when you reinstall the brake booster. I have manual brakes so a picture of mine won't help. Here is a picture of a doubler, I fabricated my own cause I am cheap.

That’s the sickspeed pedal/mount, and it’s not a true doubler because it doesn’t actually touch the firewall at the master cylinder. You have to install a boot on the firewall to seal out the elements. I’ve dry fit mine and will detail the actual install in a few weeks.

Not nitpicking, I just want to avoid any confusion!

I didn't know that, I made my own so it did touch the firewall. In fact I made a few of them before I got it right.... :popcorn:

Please tell us what hydraulic kit you bought. It will help us to help you and reduce the hypothetical responses.


This looks like the kit from sicspeedmonte. If so, this kit doesn't use the cruise wiring, or mechanical linkage hole. A new hole needs to be drilled, see web site for further details. I have this kit and its well engineered.
