I’ve been living at my current house for 3 years now. Rented it from a family friend with the plans of buying when she retired. Which is about 1.5-2 years from now. Well last month she called me up and tells me she is selling the house to someone else and pretty much I gotta get out..
The wife and I talked about moving to Ocala quite a bit but surprisingly enough nursing jobs suck over there.
Another place we always had in mind was North Carolina. Particularly the Gastonia/Dallas area(about 30min west of Charlotte). She has a friend that moved there and they loved it so we always talked about joining them.

Now we might move up there by the end of the month. Though I honestly haven’t done to much research about really important things like dare I say it emissions . We don’t have any of that in Florida. So now I’m worried my “street car” is gonna turn into a race car.
Also how is the car life out there?

If you're worried about all that, consider just across the border in SC. Gaffney, Spartanburg, or Rock Hill area. You're right there in the mix, and you don't have to live up under N. Cackalacky laws. If that's your concern. And you're still just a stone throw from Charlotte. You can own a modified G-body without any known emission laws to make you park it on a trailer in SC. At least not yet.

There's several (lots) of counties in NC that have emissions testing. Mecklenburg (sp?) is the county that contains Charlotte and they do have emissions testing.

However, you're going to love this for your G-body....one of the exemptions (at least for now) is if the car is 20 years old or older it does not require testing. :) :) :) The other exemptions are light duty vehicle <3 years old or less than 70K miles. Or a diesel, or a car/truck registered as a farm vehicle.

There may be other requirements, but being I don't live there, thus, I don't care.

Normally (without Covid), Charlotte kicks azz on car junk. All sorts of genres, so whatever you're into, they probably got it.

Well it’s official. We are going to be moving up there. We drove up there last Wednesday and came back to Miami today.
im really looking forward to making the move! We are both very tired of the city. The scenery out there was beautiful. The roads are amazing. On Monday we drove out to Smokey mountain national park. Took back roads in the mountains. Drove the piss out of the Rental minivan to the point the wife got car sick. I’m likely going to leave the cars registered in Miami till I get everything ironed but looks pretty straight forward. I saw a few hot rods out on the road. One Gbody El Camino and two Montes one half way sunken in the dirt and the other looks to be a race car on a trailer.
Also took a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway/Z maxx. It’s a lot closer to me then Palm Beach International Raceway is to me now.
I can say after driving in the mountain roads and curvy back roads I really think I’m gonna continue the build to be more handling oriented. I need to change much as the cat needs new shocks and springs anyway. I’ll likely still keep my bigs and little for the occasional track outing.

If you register it as a antique vehicle you can buy a plate for the year vehicle and drive with that on your car. You don't have to worry about emission testing on your older vehicles but you will need to schedule an appointment with the state patrol to look it over before you can register it. They will look at it and take some pictures and you'll be on your way.

And taxes? Yeah, you're going to love 'em.

Income tax is 8.25 percent, property tax is about 10 bucks per 1000 dollars in value (200K home will cost you 2K in taxes). Sales tax ain't too bad at 7.25 percent. Not sure if they have any additional splosts or not which would raise that figure.

Insurance rates probably will drop from where you are.

Basically, unless you're getting a 10% raise in pay, expect a smaller paycheck living in Charlotte all else being equal. Although, housing prices may be lower than southern Florida. Not everywhere in Charlotte, though. There are some pricey areas. Live a bit out in the 'burbs and it won't be so bad.

Good luck, you're going to love it. Oh, and...bring a coat.

My daughter lived there, your going to love it- lots to see do and play
We loved it. So much to do with just a couple hours drive. We went to Smokey mountain park. Had lunch in Gatlinburg, took a drive to Pigeon Forge and still made it back in time for ice cream in the town we are moving to.
the only thing we aren’t looking forward to is that we go to Disney a few few times a years. So that drive just got longer. I really looking forward to making a trip to The Tail of the Dragon and maybe make it LS fest next year.

We took that into consideration.
We are moving about 35-40min from Charlotte. We definitely aren’t moving to Charlotte. No reason to leave one City to move to another.
Property in south Florida is out of hand. Rentals- 2bd Apartments $2k plus a month, houses are over $3k a month. Buying a town you won’t find a decent house in a decent neighborhood for least than $450k
The area we looking has new copy paste houses for $260s for a 5bd house
Other houses with decent property space for about the same. Pay seems to be about the same for both my wife’s and my career. All worth it in my book to leave this toxic Miami. The peace in that place alone always another level. We have for kids and we barely take them out to the parks because of the people. They can play outside because even the Police drive like maniacs around here.

Those tax rates look like a pay raise for me. My property taxes are about 8 times that, and that's quite a discount on sales tax as well.

Maybe you're telling me something :unsure:
