With a proper stop, TDC was found and set. I got a 107 ICL in the normal position. In the 4 degrees advanced position, I got 112 ICL, that is where I am putting it.

Then you want to aim for 104-106. If you can wind up there with the parts you have it’s close enough.
Thanks, it makes sense. The other piece of advice I was given was bad. He is chebby guy, no offense meant. He goes on the other Olds site and brags about how fast his BBC's run. He was challenged by an Olds racer, after he insulted everything he has done and it was a waste of his time🙄. I should have known he wasn't being sincere in trying to help. I may be this timing set, if this is an Edelbrock, they are known to be off. It was getting late last night, will check it again. Thanks, no BS agenda here.

No offense taken. I’m at the point in life where if there is someone out there that wants to build an engine no matter what it is, go for it. Try something different. I walked away from racing 3 years ago. I worked in an engine shop learning tips and dynoing engines. Some things matter some don’t. Like I said my last engine had a custom roller cam and a Cloyes race roller billet chain and it was still off when I degreed it. It happens. But I moved it and would up I think 1/2 degree advanced and put it together. That was the 980 hp engine.

I just realized I was zeroing the dial indicator at maximum lift on the #1 intake lobe and reading the .050" numbers on either side of the lobe. It should be the .020" numbers correct?

I use .050 but no matter what numbers you use on either side it should still find the center point. Can you post the instructions you’re using? Start to finish. There has to be something I’m missing.
