84+ grille mounting

Something looks broken here? Should there be a price across those gaps for the clip on nuts that hold the grille?

Should I just drill some new holes?

I'm a little confused. It's been a while since I've seen mine, but I didn't think the bumpers were involved. The header panel on mine, since I got it in '08, didn't have anything extra for the U-nuts. They basically just worked with clamping force. Can't remember where the lower springs hook in.

Crap my thumbs are too big for this phone. LMAO I didn't mean to post the fender and bumper pic.

I had three pictures of the mounting holes on the underside of the header panel. The holes don't really look Like they're broken. But the grille I have had plastic wedged in the clip on nuts. And the nuts seem kind of small to grab on to those holes. Lol. I was just thinking clip on nuts should have something to clip on to. I'm cool with being wrong.

Are you combining parts from two cars? Could have been chunks of broken header panel. I used to take my grille out for various reasons and one thing I do remember is not having a great fit up there. I can't remember if I had a bit of material missing but I think one of them didn't hold well, and I vaguely remember having to hold one of the u-nuts in place while tightening just so it wouldn't spin out. Definitely not flawless. But they do the job between the three of them. Might not hurt if you work out a new system or drill new holes. But if you go that far, consider a new mounting flange to put on the grille. Mine has a crack. The metal is thin and rust doesn't help.

I'm combining parts from 3 maybe 4 cars. Mine is an 83, I bought a header panel yesterday. I was test fitting with a grille I borrowed from my boss without asking, but will probably buy a different one from somebody else. Lol

My Regal is a 86' and the top metal plate that mounts to the header panel has 3 round holes, it is mounted with 3 washer head bolts that thread into clips that are mounted on the header panel and the middle one looks to be mounted on the support arm.
Yours being slotted should not affect mounting it with factory hardware.
