I recently brought my 80 Malibu wagon to a Body and fender guy to clean up some rust that I saw starting in the drip rail valley near the back of my car. I knew this was not a job for a younger mechanic , but more for someone who has worked on older GM's and classic cars that had the usual chrome trim of older cars. Well I found someone that would see what he could do.
This guy let me know that removing the drip rail chrome can be a b*tch and may get damaged. Well damaged it is. The driver side drip rail chrome was epoxied on and will not be put back on.
I need the help of any gbody member that can Help me find a driver side WAGON driprail chrome. I know its a tall order cuz I dealing with a tough piece to remove but I think some one will come through. I will also be posting in the wanted section. Thanks very much for your time. ( by the way I'm in the New Orleans, LA area and will gladly pay whatever shipping fees that will be incurred)

Theres an Olds wagon at a local yard but its stacked on top of another car. I might be able to get there before the end of the week. I'll see if the trims still on the car. If you can find it sooner just sent me a PM. I'll let you know.

I will let the Forum know if I find any locally. But since hurricane Katrina came through in 2005. Our classic car volume is almost Zero here.
However please let me know if you find anything.

A long time ago now I used to have decent luck at the pull a part on the west bank. Must've been at least 6 or 8 years back though. I still have regrets about not having time to grab some real nice dark blue stepside fenders that were in there

That Pull a Part rarely has any G bodies. They no longer have the Vintage car section either. I was there 2 weeks ago looking for silverado parts. Wagons? Not a chance.
Thanks anyway.

Mich,
Are the rear bumper fillers any good on the Olds wagon and are they accessible? My friend has been looking for a set. He's also a former New Yorker like me. ;)

I havent been to the yard to check the car out Jack. It was 20 degrees here yesterday and not real warm today. If it warms up a little I'll try to go this week. Kinda crazy. I was in a T shirt last Friday and a Carhartt yesterday. New York weather. SMH
BTW, the inner fender that I sprayed on Sunday has to be stripped to bare plastic. I guess the temps werent warm enough and the SEM Hot Rod black stayed glossy. Didnt flatten at all. I should have known. LOL

Geez! I tend to forget that there is a difference in weather between here and there. Just that it's been in the low to mid 80's for a high down here. It's like living in a climate controlled bubble. :giggle:
Yeah, trying to paint parts when the weather isn't too conducive for painting is a no bueno. You might to wait till it warms up a bit. That's too bad that you're going to have to strip the inner fender down to the bare and start over again.
My friend in NY said it was pretty mild last week.
No rush on checking out the yard. The weather will have to cooperate.
Thanks Mich!

Maybe today Jack ! Its a little warmer than yesterday and Ive got a list of things that I need to pick. I just hope I can squeeze along that wagon. Last time I was there they had it pretty tight to the other cars and it was on top of a mini van or SUV. I really want to pop the rear door panels and hopefully get the plastic liners if theyre not broken.

Mich,
If you do happen to go there, be careful and be safe. Nothing is worth getting hurt over. We're not youngsters anymore.
The liners that you're referring to, are they ones under the door panels? Those things are always brittle and break if you breathe on them wrong. I think mine are put together with duct tape. The thing is that they're molded, not flat, so you can't really duplicate them.
