Man that is a good point. I think he may he able to do a 305 if he had the right emissions.

Honestly I forget sometimes how stupid American states are for their arbitrary laws on emissions.

Here in Canada we don't have them which is great.
California is the worst when it comes to emissions

ahhh didn’t know GP also came with a 305, i’m assuming my transmission would be fine?
With a BOP to Chebby adapter yep.

A 301 would work too, if it has the shitty emissions crap on it too I believe.

Find a smogged Pontiac 350, 400, or 403 & paint it corporate blue & dress it up to look like the 265 for an option. Better option move out of Kali & jam a 455 in it.

Find a smogged Pontiac 350, 400, or 403 & paint it corporate blue & dress it up to look like the 265 for an option. Better option move out of Kali & jam a 455 in it.
He could probably do a 350, but since the GP never came with a 400 or 403 wouldn't it not be able to pass?

what about finding a shop that has a little bit confidence in their work and see of they're willing to give it a shot?especially since you're happy with the car and it's current drive train so why not?

i may call some places around see if any luck. definitely looks labor intense.

I would have the rear main seal replaced, in the car, by a competent shop (someone who isn't afraid to work on old cars) with a rope type seal and a Sneaky Pete (tool). I would use conventional oil. My experience is synthetic is more prone to leaking but I'm sure some will disagree. I would stay away from the diesel oil. I guess 20w50 is ok, just fortify it with ZDDP Plus so the flat tappet cam is protected. If you get the seal replaced rin 10W30. If you're in southern California the 30W Penn Grade high performance (not break in) would be good and doesn't require additives. It's expensive though.

Yes, i recently learned about zinc not being in today’s motor oil for old cars.

I’ll see how this 20w50 plays out and go from there
