I recently got a 1980 cutlass wagon that has a ls swap done. It’s a mild 6.0 with 475hp and a th400. It has a in line electric fuel pump. It has an aftermarket accessory drive which I plan on putting back to the factory truck accessories. Questions are as fallows. I would like to get rid of the carb system and go to fuel injection. What is the best budget friendly way to do this. I plan on running a truck intake. I haven’t found if anyone has done this yet I did search. Hopefully some of you have experience with this thanks in advance.

Good decision using the truck intake. It produces more horsepower and torque than the LS3/L76 car intakes. Some people say they’re ugly but after shaving mine I like the look. The most budget friendly method would be to use a junkyard harness and ECM and have it tuned. Some guys swear by the Holley aftermarket harness and computer but it’s pricey. How do you know your 6.0 produces 475 hp? Dyno? Just curious. My mild 6.2 produces 400 hp at the wheels and has a flat torque curve due to keeping the VVT.

It was dunno tuned so I have the paperwork from it. I have read enough to know that the truck intake is the most budget friendly and arguably the best. Holley would be nice but like you said not budget friendly and I don’t think it will be necessary for what the car is or will be. Mine does have the vvt delete so my torque curve isn’t the best but it makes like 440 torque so can’t complain to much.

With a VVT delete you could get away with GenIII electronics if the crank and cam sensors are accounted for somehow.
Currently the engine still has the cam and crank sensors to run the ignition system with an msd controller.

welcome. i saw your vehicle on a co-workers phone the other day, Truesdale. if you want to go with an intank pump, get a sender for a 95 astro van. there are two different styles to pick from, tbi has different fittings than the mpfi unit. look them over. i used the mpfi on my lt1 wagon conversion. i have the tool for making the fittings into the push style connectors. works great.

If you believe that a Holley Terminator X is too expensive, then a factory PCM or Megasquirt is about the only way to get it done cheaper - but not much. If you want to leave the MSD to run the timing (wouldn't recommend), then a Microsquirt for $400 can easily run a fuel only setup with a crank sensor signal only.

If you have the skill set to install a factory PCM and harness, then have at it. But if you have to buy a new harness and all of the components for it to function, then you'll be stepping over dollars to pick up dimes.

Good luck - Jim

You referring to the tone ring on the crank?
He's referring to the crank and cam triggers/. Gen 3 were 24/1 and Gen 4's are 58/4.
