Ok so I guess it's not really a "project," or at least not yet... but I will need a paper bag over my head when I'm driving it.

2005 Smart fortwo, 0.8L diesel. I gotta admit, driving the Malibu 100 miles a day is starting to void the novelty of having a hot rod, putting unnecessary wear and tear on it, and not to mention the fuel cost, even for propane. This little four wheel moped will cost me about 8 bucks a day for my commute, down from 26 in the Malibu. It has a no start issue that I'm wrestling with, but no "three bars of death" that usually indicate a bad ECU. Alternator was seized solid, but that didn't fix the problem. Guy messed with it a bunch, so tomorrow I'm gonna try a few different reset procedures, and replace a snapped wire connector to the speed sensor.
Fingers crossed.

Diesel? Wow. Do you leave the door open, give it a push and jump in halfway through the intersection?

Prognosis: seized alternator, resulting in corrosion causing a bad connection at the starter from sitting so long. Now I have a stumble and an egr code, but its driveable, and I'm pretty happy with my 500 dollar purchase.

Today I swapped the engine ground cable. Took 4 and a half hours. At least 2 of which were spent trying to get at the engine side bolt with any kind of tool, except a 1/4" drive swivel, which I've learned today I do not own.

And look how small this turbo is!

The correct way to do this job would be to remove the intercooler and fan, and egr housing, but that just seemed like too much work, and raising the possibility of something going wrong.

With no sarcasm intended, well maybe a little ;) , I think it would be in your best interest to figure out hot get the body off that thing or drop out the 'power plant' for some general maintenance. Alot of rust in those photos that will lead to more of the same type of headaches.

Just spit ballin' here, so take it with a grain a salt.
