Don't ever become a road racer, 100 miles is my longest local event. In other regions it's not unusual for 250 to be your short haul. If I ever get into drag racing (likely with the Monte if I ever have time to clean it up) it'll get trailered. I can't imagine not trailering to a track anymore. The peace of mind, having a place to hide from the sun, I wouldn't want to be without.
That’s why Jake has a hitch - trailer to haul all of your shade goodies - including grill and cooler.

Work on the turbo 4.1? Put A/C in the garage? Keep cool and build models to fortify the car fund?

Turbo 4.1 sounds like a fantastic idea but that lends to getting the garage cool since it's 95 in there (ish).

Garage does need AC and I'd love to put a window unit in, but the previous owner (for some inconceivable reason) nailed janky storm windows onto the existing windows so it's 4 panes of glass and they can't be opened. BAH! They spent the money to sheetrock the garage but not insulate it so I'm not sure why they decided add on storm windows was going keep the garage a more comfortable temp when everything just radiates out the ceiling and walls. I need to replace the windows.

You struck a sour topic for me on the AC suggestion lol....

Models is the coolest option for sure!

Brainerd has a road course too ya know. . .

Funny you mention that,

The Aussies host the US version of PowerCruise there next weekend actually. Everyone with a 1200hp car with no safety equipment goes there and they roll race around the track. The amount of people on FB thrashing to get their stuff zip tied together enough to make it in the last few weeks has been impressive.

I have heard it is a RIOT but I know a ton of people that roast engines and transmissions there. My car is nowhere near the point where I feel comfortable to blast it down the back straight at 160mph alongside a 1200hp foxbody lol.

Some day.

Dr. Pepper is the poor man’s track compound. Find a local road and turn it into a black lines matter road - then take your time dial inyour launch to not be at 5 degrees when you dump the clutch.
But be safe and lift before you hit 60mph.

FYI - I’ve never done any type of red neck testing and tuning like that before, but you folks from the Midwest have a lot less population density than us NYer’s. 🤪😉😑😉

125 miles to a track - Geesh that’s a pita. I wish I didn’t know the feeling.

I do have a 'test' spot not TOO far away that I do have some tune things to work through on. That is part of the plan in the coming days/weeks to do some 4th gear timing pulls. I need to verify my clutch delay and 2 step turns off when I want.

Dad and I actually painted out 60ft, 660 and 1320 ft markers on the road out by the farm in HS to do some testing, but I live annoyingly far away now to use that.

I am currently in the worst track access condition I have ever been (I have been really spoiled). In HS and College I was between 10 and 40 miles from the 1/4 mile track (actually the track I ran at 3 weeks ago) and was 5 miles away from the track after college for the past 4 years until last year when I moved.

I moved to the MSP metro area for my Master's schooling 2 years ago which is full of NIMBY Karens (who shut the local track down in the late 80's). There are arguably significant street racing problems here and the local PD puts out regular "we shut down this street race, keep it safe, go to the track" PSA's multiple times over the summer and the response from everyone is "What track!?!?"

There's a track over in WI 100 miles east, Brainerd is 125 miles North, 1/8 mile track is 75 miles west, the track I grew up with is 200 miles away, and the track I went to after college is 180 miles south. There are efforts to put a 1/4 mile track and road course in about 70 miles south west, but the local Karens are doing their best to keep it out and I honestly think its dead now.

If you're using a pop up canopy for shade here expect it to be short lived. The wind claims one almost every single weekend.

81 if you're not racing then point bys are going to be mandatory, so no dive bombing should be expected. It does tax the braking and cooling system though.

Ok i gotta ask, what is a point by and what is dive bombing?

So I did come up with a few ideas on things to do. When I turn the AC on the RPM lugs down and the engine dies sometimes. HPT has an AC request pin that when you apply 12V to it it should bump the idle up. I connected the wire (it's been sitting next to the AC pump this whole time) and changed the tune around to idle 200rpm faster when the AC is on. The problem is it isn't commanding the idle higher, so I gotta do some more work on that. I can see that the PCM is seeing the 12V signal for the AC request on, but it's not bumping the idle so there is another input I need to hook up or something in the tune. There is about 30 tables related to AC idle so I have some digging to do.

I also did a pull in 3rd gear from a light roll to see where my timing is. I ended up with 2 more degrees and it didn't try to retard the timing any, so I am going to stick another 2 in and see how it looks. I was at 6 at 2500 and 13 at 6000 and now im at 8 and 14.

I would keep adding two until you feel a difference. Obviously monitor the knick sensor, but I’m thinking you still room for another 4 -6 on the bottom.

Dad lives in a three-bedroom ranch house that was built in 1975. He moved in in 1985. I don't think he air-conditioned his garage until 2015. He waited way too long. The ceiling above his garage was uninsulated with attic above. The walls were uninsulated including the one between the garage and the kitchen. On a hot summer day, it was hotter in the garage then it was out in the driveway. You could go out to the garage at 6 the next morning and it would still be hot out there from the prior day. Dad started by placing batt insulation in the Attic and then decking over it. That made a tremendous difference. Then he had Sean and I over to help him install a 24000 BTU window unit. He didn't have a window in his garage, so we pulled the sheetrock down on one wall, framed an opening and then cut the brick. We had the unit mounted in the opening and running in one day. Dad finished up the install with the Finish electrical, trim, sheetrock, Etc. Moving forward, he pulled down the other sheetrock in the garage section by section and insulated behind it. Finally, he insulated the garage doors. It was a lot of work to be sure, but it transformed his garage. Don't wait too long.

Oddly enough my place is also a Brick 3 bedroom ranch house built in the 50's. I have the same problem, the garage is hot from the day before in the morning.

I'll take the suggestion and try to get insulation in at least the ceiling this fall. The goal is to keep the garage heater on at about 45-50 all winter this year so my Lathe is a bit more happy. I am going to get eaten alive in gas bill otherwise.

I did put a garage heater in this winter that helped tremendously. Batt insulation in the ceiling is in the plans and I think I am going to try blow in for the walls since they are already finished. Luckily I already have an insulated garage door and replaced the 50's era man doors last fall with some modern insulated steel doors.

Thanks for the motivation :)

Definitely bring it in sooner. That made a huge difference on both of my trucks and the otherwise stock 6.0 trucks that I've tuned. And everything else I've ever done it to.

With boost?

How far are you from the low octane LSA tune, and how far from the high octane tune on the bottom?

Sorry, my ADHD has me forgetting

Easy fix for that. Fender washers and concrete screws thru the feet with a cordless impact right into the pavement.
