Might be showing some newbie stripes with this one...

I am working on the 327 swap / manual conversion again after a week in Nova Scotia visiting family (there is a build thread: https://gbodyforum.com/threads/nostalgia-lemans-327-muncie-swap.82287/)

This afternoon I installed pilot bushing / flywheel / clutch disk / pressure plate on the 327.

I was then mocking up the bellhousing / clutch fork / throwout bearing installation without the transmission so i could see how things fit together.

What I found was about a 1/2 gap between T/O bearing and the pressure plate springs, when the clutch fork is seated properly in the bell housing ball stud.

the throwout bearing will only engage in this case on an angle with the pressure plate spring (i.e. T/O bearing face will not be flush with the pressure plate springs)

I haven't tried installing T/O bearing on transmission first yet, but something looks a bit off to me...

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Colin

I don't know if this helps but im 100% sure you have to use a g body clutch fork. I believe the Parts Place Inc. sells a reproduction.

The throw out bearing slides on the bearing retainer on the front of the transmission that is what will keep it aligned. That groove in the inside of the throw out bearing with the grease in it is what keeps that sliding surface lubricated.

The flats on the front of the fork will be in the center of the bearing when it is installed.

Thankfully I've got myself one of those. I think it was a misunderstanding on my part, as ELCAM said it's the bearing retainer on the transmission that determines alignment

Got the engine + transmission mated yesterday after some effort to properly align the clutch disc with the pilot bushing
