Nice one! Comparing a handlifted tailstock to pounds of potatoes gives a pretty good idea of the weight on your lever.

So... any plans to go painting long black elevens with it pretty soon?

Nice ride! And,

Keep up the superb progress.

Thanks!
and as for the long black elevens (lol), my next step towards that is getting the shifter and linkage sorted out. My transmission came with a bench-seat style hurst comp plus (3913780) for 55-57 bel air’s. I thought I would need it to clear my bench but the shift stick geometry Is bigger thank I thought and might not be needed. Plus it’s looking Like it may interfere with the dash in 1st and 3rd. I’ll try the fit soon but I’m Researching into a few other options as well, i.e. comp plus for early corvette and camaro.

Here's a link to a older posting on installing a Muncie/T10 in our cars to have the shifter clear the bench.
As for a shifter stick on my Saginaw I'm using a Hurst 5389017 round stick (simular to OE & '69 Camaro) that replaced the 5387436 that came with the Comp Plus shifter 3918794.

Update on the shifter - this weekend I made the hole in the floor plan and bolted up the shifter. The issue was as I expected - interference with the dash on the front of the shift stick in 1st/2nd/R. Lots of clearance of the bench seat in 3rd/4th.

This is with the seat as far back as possible (for reference I’m about 5’-11” and can still operate the pedals easily with seat all the way back)

the plan is to remove the indicated section of the shift stick in the photo and re-weld it together. Sucks that it’s a nice Hurst piece but at least the shifter boot should hide the scar.

Also did a helicoil repair of the tailstock mounting bolt holes on the Muncie. I believe the tail stock was later production than the case, because threads are M10.

Progress update for late August / Mid September!

1. Finished putting accessories on engine, installed shifter modified to clear dash
2. Ended up purchasing mini-starter (SUM-829105 off summit) to clear headers, as well as new throttle bracket
3. Started and ran the 327 after initially having distributor 180deg out, filled coolant
4. Chipped teeth on flywheel and beat up starter bendix. (my fault, I assumed because there were no bad gear noises it was meshing properly)
From the marks on the flywheel it looks like the bendix wasn't extending far enough into the flywheel, only crossing about 1/2 way over the flywheel teeth.
If anyone has had this issue I'd love to hear about it!

Colin
