1980 Malibu shocks

I bought new shocks for my 1980 Malibu at a local parts store..The shocks raised the body about 3 to 4 inches to high..What happened??Has to be wrong shocks..Anyone been through same thing?.I seen a malibu years ago sitting the same way..

Hi, not sure what shocks you bought, but Bilstein's raised my car about 1/2".

It's kinda unusual to have new gas shocks raise a vehicle that much. My recollections of using KYB gas ad-just shocks, it did raise the vehicle a minute amount, nothing that drastic.
What brand are these shocks?

Hey there,thanks for the reply..I got the shocks at Autozone 4 years ago..I threw away all the packaging and stored them with other parts until I were ready to install them..so now I don't remember what brand they were,part numbers either...I bought ac delco shocks for my 1986 El Camino off ebay and they are perfect as original.....I think I'm screwed autozone ordered the wrong shocks...Any other advice or help is very appreciated,thanks

Get new shocks. Verify they're correct this time & install them to verify so you can take action if they're not what you want/need.

kyb shocks came with my Hotchkis Sport Suspension FT Part # KC 4513 F118K
RR Part# KC 5548 FH27k
They are for a lowered car 1inch, FT and RR but should work on a normal ride height. Their is almost on bounce on the car. Great shock for handling

Will the suspension compress at all?

With that much difference, i would think they're for a different application and are bottomed out on the Malibu, holding it up. No tube shock would raise the car 4 inches, unless it was a set of air shocks.

FWIW, shocks don’t change ride him right unless they are defective.

I will recommend G-body Bilsteins FTW. I don’t believe there. Is a better stick replacement. They aren’t cheap, but they aren’t stupid money either.
If you buy a set, then you’ll know immediately.

Monroe, KYB, etc. , all inferior compared to the Bilsteins.

Shock shouldn’t hold any weight it should bleed down to the spring. If it’s not bleeding down or it’s out of travel that can hold a car up.

Some times when you jack up your car, then lower it might sit high. Drive it around the block and should go back to a normal ride height.
