Well, ouch, I guess?

The car looks great with the skinnies. Were you happy, other than with the clutch mess?

I feel a bit cheated (probably a better word) that the timing system has been broken both times I have made it to the track this summer. Kinda sucks the car left broke both times without getting much satisfaction.

BUT, running 3 passes pretty close to each other without bogging is a win.

Yeah, but then you are going to put in a new clutch and have to start all over again. ;)

Put a manual trans in the car they said
It will be fun to shift gears they said
Manual transmission preservation society and all that jazz

As usual dad's diagnosis from 250 miles away was right. The friction disk warped.

Some heat marks on both the pressure plate and flywheel. Going to call some places Monday to refinish the flywheel. It's just in the boarderline of fitting in my lathe.

The rework I did on my exhaust and crossmember this winter did pay off. The exhaust dropped out easy and pulling the xmember was quick. Took about 2 and a half hours not working really hard. I can probably get it down to 2 now that I know the order stuff needs to happen.

You're a brave man driving to the track. Trailer all the way for this guy. I could put a rod through the block and not worry about how I'm getting home. And yes, in this context I am referring to drag racing.

Brave and stupid are adjacent.

Not owning a proper trailer or a vehicle to confidently tow it is another big reason.

Hey he's only got to use it for like 2 months! Don't be so mean :p

Bought a new clutch from a local buddy. I found a few places to refinish my flywheel so gotta make some calls tomorrow.

Here is the bend in the project where everything gets hard when it shouldn't be.

In the process of changing my rear main seal because the OEM seal is 22 years old and it's easy to change now.

The new felpro seal presses in REALLY easy. By hand. Yuck. OEM seal was a national that is superseded to the new one. GM seal is now made by Felpro. I test fit a f*g from Napa and it's a little more snug but also easy to press in by hand.

Have a new National seal coming in from across town. Rock auto diagram shows its the same style as the OEM national. One hopes it presses in better. Not sure how this isn't a reported problem??

Yesterday I spent 2 hours driving around trying to find a shop to refinish my flywheel. First one said they would do it, I dropped it off, drove 45 mins home and got a call as soon as I got home that it was too far gone and they wont do it.

Called 3 other shops and they either don't refinish flywheels or didn't pick up the phone.

Finally found one that did it. They removed 0.017". 24 hour turnaround for $107. He said it was a tough one and took a lot of CBN off the blanchard but it looks good, it was cheaper than a new $400 flywheel and got done soon.

Now I just need to get some luck on the rear main. Blah.

Flywheel looks good. What are the differences between the two clutches?
