When I was an employee of Johnson Controls I had access to employee pricing on Optima batteries. I bought them for all of our vehicles and haven’t been sorry. Now, eight years later one of them in our daily driver is starting to show its age and needs to be replaced. I’ve watched some YouTube reviews and most of them say the Everstart batteries at Walmart perform well and are a good value. Anyone here have direct experience with them? These are a standard lead acid Johnson Controls battery.

Atleast in my area Everstart's are relabeled Deka's. Saw one of their trucks delivering them at the local Walmart. Deka seems to be a good battery.

We use the Walmart batteries in our family and econocar because they're cheap. We get a few years out of them, maybe four, but they don't see 8 years. I think we get the Plus not the Maxx. They've always worked well for us.

I put Everstart’s in our daily drivers in 2017 or so, so they’ve lasted 4 years at least. I figured to go the cheap route and see what happens at the time without any other preference and for how easy they are to replace.

I own 4 of these batteries. For me it boiled down to... Price. Availability. Warranty.
I also have owned, and currently do own a Optima battery, and have been satisfied with the performance and longevity.
If i needed a battery today, i would buy a Walmart battery with no hesitation.

If optima served you well for years and continues to give good service life , why not get another optima ?

For a couple reasons. I’m not willing to spend the extra money on a vehicle that I’ll be selling and I can’t get employee pricing anymore. Johnson Controls wanted out of the volatility of the automotive Industry and sold the business to Yan Feng automotive.

I have a truck that has a lot of miles (230,*** and going). Did not want to spend allot on a vehicle that may run only a few more years. Was going to get a EverStart from Walmart for $130. Ended up getting an Excide battery for $99 at Runnings. The Excide battery has both the post and the side terminals so If I have to connect jumpers or other tools to it it is easier to do. Nice surprise was it is stamped Made in USA on it. In the end there are only a few battery manufacturers left. I was looking for a fresh battery at a good price that was also of a brand that allot where sold.

Not only that, but, when it comes down to it I hear that ALL of the lead plates used to assemble the cores are imported from China these days.

Jay Leno made an off hand remark on one of his shows that the car had an Optima battery, “we use them because they are a good battery”. It clearly wasn’t a sales pitch but he should know with over 300 cars in his collection. I’ve always had Delcos in my 70’s GM cars mostly for originality but I’m not that impressed with their longevity even with battery tenders on them, they average 5 years.
