Hey all, Sorry for the long absence. work, racing, family, more work.....and I have been a ghost from this forum.
Just to bring you all up to speed, I had a Post titled Frankenstein 7.5 and it detailed the saga of my novice racing hobby and a certain scavenged junkyard 7.5 with an S10 Diff and a Mini spool.
Well, the car held up through two seasons now but it has undergone a few more changes. the SBC 350 that was in the car since I got it is still running and I am ecstatic about it.
It is a simple 350 with headers, an edlebrock intake and 600cfm carb spinning a 200 4r through 3.73 rear and 275-60-15 Mickey Thompson drag radials. It ran 10.50 in the 1/8 and 16.2 in the 1/4.
Now for the mods... The aforementioned 7.5 rear with S10 Diff and 3.73 gears has held up. I have added a Davis Ign (DUI Module) a different Edelbrock intake with a higher rise, and a Holley 670 Street Avenger.
I pulled the 200 4r and swapped in a turbo 350 cleaned up some choking exhaust pipe pieces, installed Comp Engineering drag Shocks and deleted the fan clutch for a flex fan
The car has been pretty consistent at 9.0 in the 1/8 and ran 14.30's )14.37-14.33) all day long at Maple Grove It did run an 8.76 (1/8) at Mason Dixon on Memorial day
I also managed to take home at least one Trophy with it after three seasons of trying! I am currently gathering pieces to build an 81 El Camino to race in 22 and I am stepping up to a street class and points racing. Thanks for Checking in I will try to post some of the build up of the Elco and how it does at the track .

My Racing buddy runs a 76 or 77 Cutlass with a Mild 350 Olds, turbo 350 and it runs consistent 8.80s. The 200 4r has a better first gear for launch that the T350. I lost a little ET when I changed, but with some tuning I got most of it back. What size tire in the rear?

It was a 25.8" MT ET Street Bias ply with an open rear, 2.1 60 ft. The 204/214 cam was two small, I think very low 9's were in it. Either way, the 88 CSC is gone. The new 400ish hp/tq Olds 350 going in the lighter 70S should run much faster even with a 3.08 posi. This car will be a long distance cruiser that will eventually see the track.

Any more info on the "simple" 350? I would think even with a mild 350, the 2004r and 3.73's you should be at worst a low 15 second car or even crack 14's with those good tires/traction and maybe nice conditions and if it's running well. Was the trans slipping at all? My low compression 350 with Vortec heads, 2004r/3.42's on street tires did a 14.55. Nice gains though after that.

The 7.5 will handle what you are doing fine as long as you don’t chatter it. Way back before anybody knew better I was running occasional 13.60’s with my 79 with a Monte ss 3.73 10 bolt. Was consistent in the 14.0-14.1 range when I raced it a lot. But if it was me, I’d shoot for as close to 14.0 that I could run so I could chase everybody. Does maple grove still use the first red light rule or the worst red light? It was first red light when I quit racing Super eliminator in 2018.

I really don’t have any information on the engine. SBC from the early 70’s. As far as I can tell it’s all stock. Other than the high rise intake, 670 holley and dui module it stock. I did say it ran 16.2 but I forgot to mention that the TV cable was broken. It shifted super early and was lazy. When I replaced the TV cable and ran it in Drive , not shifting to OD, it ran 14.55 straight off the trailer. With a best of 14.38 at Beaver Springs on a really good pass and that might have been with an edelbrock 600

I did win a round with a.007 red against a.022 red light so, yes they were running the worst red light rule. I have to laugh that I was being chased by low 10 second cars that day and beating them. The car was super consistent and I was cutting decent lights. Looking forward to the nostalgia/ geezer races in 2022
