I would imagine the diesel one is a sandwich adapter which is fine if you want to add an oil cooler to a stock set up but it will still have a filter that screws on in the same location and probably giving you even less clearance than what is there now.
If you add a remote filter set up you can easily plumb in an oil cooler to that (if needed) I have a 7 qt oil pan with 2 filters in my Monte with a 565 BBC, it takes 10 qts to fill my system and my oil temps stay around my coolant temps all day long so I doubt you would even need a cooler.

Looks like OP is in North Dakota. Myself, the only upgrade I would consider is something like the Rocket Racing adapter with the bypass removed and lower profile.

Where are you located? I know of one in a salvage yard if you’re near NH
If the OP is looking to do a remote filter setup the factory diesel oil cooler adapter is not going to work.

If anyone's looking for a diesel adapter with the cooling ports, here's one. $47.58 plus any taxes. Although it's NOT an NOS unit as far as I can tell. Bolt scrape marks and ingrained dirt. Still fairly clean, though.

As 565bbchevy points out, the diesel adapter does NOT take into account for remote filtration. You still need to run a filter off it. I wouldn't run it to the radiator, I'd run a separate cooler for it. But that's just me.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. If I do end up running a cooler, I think I'll just run it after the remote filter block with an inline thermostat.

This thread reminded me something I seen 30+ years ago on a Jet boat with a olds 455 my neighbor had. He did have a remote oil filter with a block adapter, never seen an adapter like that on an olds engine so I ask him is that something new from Mondello his reply was no. It's a Pontiac adapter my mouth dropped and the more I looked at that adapter the bolt pattern lined up like it was made for an olds engine. I did ask him if there was any modification done to it he sad no.

The picture below is very similar to the one I seen on that 455 30+ years ago, would be nice if someone would make them for an olds engine.

And the things we see and keep in our heads shows us old guys know things the kids just can’t fathom.
