Did I miss what the motor is?
I'm not posting up what kind of engine or price, just for the fact I want to stick on topic to perhaps get professional advice on the matter at hand.

So, my guess is it is something to be ashamed of such as an LS engine, or perhaps something Honduh-ricey-type :p

not to hijack the thread but I am in a similar situation.

Late 1993 I pulled the 283 out of my '67 Impala. Found a machine shop that let me use a corner and I learned how to strip and rebuild from there. Due to time circumstances, took me a year to complete with them doing some of the re-assembly. Finally got it re-assembled and started running in late 1994. Has maybe an hour of break-in time. and then life interfered......got a real job, got married, started a career, etc, .....:blah::blah::blah::blah::blah:

pulled the engine again in '99 to start restoring the Impala, put it on an engine stand in my garage, wrapped it in a black trash bag, and it's been there ever since because 1 yr later the bottom fell out of the stock market so restoration ground to a halt and never restarted. then more life interfered... had a kid, went back to school, etc......more :blah::blah::blah::blah::blah:

so essentially I have an engine that was rebuilt and never used. what do I do with it now? the advice given here about stripping and rebuilding matches what I have been told by other individuals elsewhere not from this forum. I guess we'll both be stripping engines down, washing parts, installing new seals and gaskets, etc 🤷‍♂️

The 305 currently in my SS was like this. It was rebuilt for my grandfather's ElCo before he passed. It sat in a bag in his, then my father's, shop for almost a decade. My dad and I pulled the heads and pan, everything inside looked good, reassembled with all new seals and gaskets. After almost 5000 miles it'll still spin both tires happily with no issues. Even breaks the tires loose on the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts, if I want it to.

I would check everything and if it's all good, replace all seals and gaskets and drop it in something and not worry about it.

That seems to be the general consensus everyone was saying. Take it down, clean, inspect and fix anything, relube, reseal, regasket, and bolt it back together if everything checks out and go.

Yep. If it was kept dry and moisture didn't set in anywhere the steel parts are just metal. Time won't hurt them.

As for the cork or rubber bits in the gaskets and seals, those dry shrink and crack. So those need to be refreshed.

Lol, the only Chevrolet "L " engine I own is in my G8 GT with the L76, and its going to stay that way :p

I am curious what 30 year old assembly lube or whatever they used back then looks like when there is no oil pan on the engine, hopefully not like the 30 year old grease in my power window tracks.

What he said^^^^. A "brand new" engine would have been schmeared with cosmoline for protection. Then bagged up and sealed. 30 years later it would just need new seals and be fine. As for debris falling in, that was unfortunate , but not a deal killer. I have taken many a crap-filled engine apart and after a good inspection/cleaning they worked great. I even took two Pontiac 400 engines that had been filled to the brim with water and got them running. Don't over-think it.

would you like the 305 from my 81 Caballero that wasflipped upside down 10' underwater in a flash flood and then sat for 6 yrs? :)
