Back story my wife’s first car was an ‘87 Monte SS in black. We’ve been in the market for a summer car and I was scrolling and came across an 85 SS last night. Message sent and today we looked and bought it. Just about how it goes sometimes. Unplanned but here we are. It runs and stops and has a near mint interior as one could hope for. Needs paint and some body work but is solid to start with. Need to sort out the radio but it’ll be a fun cruiser this summer.
Now the fun begins for restoration of the exterior and maybe some performance stuff down the road.
Wife is happy as a pig in sh*t so that’s what matters!

Wellston, OK
Congrats!

Personally, I'd get all those keys off that ring...tears up the paint over time. I keep the keys for each car separate from my other keys

Nice find! The sheetmetal doesn't look bad in the pictures.
Ya I’m impressed with the overall condition. The body lines are all pretty good and match up. A little work and it’ll be a great cruiser. Then I try to convince her on an LS swap. I can dream ;)

My buddy's got a sweet '86, with a 600+ hp LS. It's a rocket ship. That 190 hp "high output" small block is pretty lame. Just remember the 200R, driveshaft, and differential aren't up to the task, magnifying the investment.

I know the slippery slope. I once had a '76 Datsun 280Z that went from a stock 6cyl to an LS1 with cam. Basically everything that was attached to it got upgraded ;)
I'd be looking for a 'mild' build as my wife wants to basically daily it, so a nice 6L with small cam nice transmission with overdrive and all the bits to go with it will be enough, for now...

Seems pretty solid. And ALL there. That's a plus. As long as the wife is happy, that's all that matters.

Good luck with the resto.

Yeah, my buddy's anything but moderate. The '86 Monte is 98% finished, but now he's building a '72, with a built BBC, like a replica of the Bobby Allison Coca-Cola Monte Carlo.
