Anyone have a suggestion for a smaller 'remote' fuel tank vent canister or charcoal filter?

Trying to find a vent solution for my EFI tank. I don't have any of the OEM charcoal canister stuff left under the hood. I would like some type of vent/filter mounted under the trunk floor near the rear axle (like where an OEM muffler sits). I don't need a rollover valve as the OEM EFI sender has one built in. I just want to make sure dust and debris can't get in the tank and possibly if if could filter out some of the gas vapor fumes when the car sits in the hot garage that would be great.

I have plugged the vent that's in the sender before and ran a vented cap but on hard drag race launches it burps fuel out the filler neck. I want a vent running forward and up so raw fuel isn't dumping out of the tank.

There is something like this, but it's a rollover valve which I don't need, and only has wire mesh to keep stuff like rocks from getting in. I'm more concerned with dust getting in the tank being I want to mount it under the car.

I've thought about something like an air line muffler, it's small, filters down to 50 micron, and cheap, but I'm OK spending a but more or having something a bit larger to actually remove some fuel vapor if possible.

I dont think the brass air line muffler will necessarily filter fumes, but they would do the job of keeping any dirt or debris out. Of course i've seen a lot of people simply put one of the mini air filters on the vent tube under the hood that used to go to the canister. That seems to work

I have the first style on my Regal with a new Spectre tank but not FI works great though, as far as being a rollover valve no one ever intends to need one until you do.

I've heard of people using in-line fuel filters for this purpose.

The KISS principle worked well for me here, small K&N filter on the vent line that used to go to the charcoal canister. No fumes or smells ever since. Not fuel injected, but I can’t see how that would matter.

Best part is, it was super cheap.

I was thinking about a similar deal for under the hood since my canister is MIA..... this K&N part would be perfect, if only the filter was charcoal in nature.

I used the rollover valve, but located in the engine bay on the factory vent line, so there is about 8' of 5/16 line to combat the slosh when I launch for grocery runs /s, plus I think the vent line is orificed at the sender. FWIW, the screen is not to keep debris out, but meant to keep flame propagation out. Flame front can't pass through a screen of a certain mesh size because the mesh sucks the heat out of the flame front (there is a size of screen mesh won't pass a flame).

No charcoal canister, but i did aquire one of those mini K&N filter with a 5/16'' diameter inlet instead of the others with a 1/2'' diameter inlet... it fit the vent tube spot on.

The vent tube itself that led back to the gas tank was somewhat stopped up, i pushed a good amount of air from a 3gal portable air compressor, the air and slight rust particles kicked back at me, i persisted till i finally heard it blow through into the gas tank with the gas cap off and proping the filler neck flap open... who knows how long its been like that for i've only had the car for about 9months, but its all good now.

When i got the car, the vent tube had a deteriated looking rubber vacuum cap on it that was sinched down with a tiny hose clamp, after clearing the line with air, i replaced the cap with some thick breathable type foam thats used for safety packaging that i cut to size till i got the K&N filter i was after, worked great as a temporary solution.

So the one I recommended to you fit properly? Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Yes, in a sense.... i looked into the one that you used, yours is cone shaped and it has the 1/2'' diameter inlet, mine is completely cylindrical in shape but with a 5/16'' diameter inlet that fit the vent tube more perfectly.
