I bought an '87 El Camino last year with some old American Racing 14" rims, and also have the original 14X6 rims. The OEM rims are in very good shape, and I'm looking for tires for those rims. 205/75R14 tires came on the car, but I was wondering if 225/70R14 will work since original size options are extremely limited.
I know 225/70R14 are slightly taller (barely), but a little more than 1/2" wider. Anyone else running this size? Having any rubbing issues on full turn? I'm assuming I'd still be OK on a 6" rim width.

Thanks for the insight.

I have 205 70R14 front and 225 70R14's 235's would fit but a stretch for 6" rims

I was thinking that maybe the 225's might be OK on the 6"rim; was also wondering how they'd do on the front with any rubbing issues on a full turn.
They'll be fine. Close enough to OE & if the sizes are more readily available they'll probably be more budget friendly to boot.

I had 225-70r-14's on a set of 6 window rallys and had no issues on an 86 El Camino. Should be the same backspace as the star styled wheel. I also ran 245-60r-14's on a set of 14 x 6.5 Monte Carlo Checkerboard wheels and had to just trim the lower inside front corner of the front spoiler/air dam for clearance.
This is with the Checkerboards.

I currently have 225/70R14 and 205/70R14 BFG Radial TA's on my Olds 14x6 factory aluminum rims. The Cooper Cobra are cheaper and more modern with no brown white letter issues. I actually had T/A's in 235/60R14 and 245/60R14's on those rims, the 245's were pushing it. The 225's cleared everywhere on my 88 CSC. The 245's hit slightly on full turn. They are a nicer height and width than the factory tires.
