Hi
New guy here. I have a 78 Olds Cutlass Supreme with a 406 small block chevy 195 afr heads. I'm looking for any kind of full length 1 3/4" headers that will fit. I don't want to spend 700 on a pair. I've looked on here in the search and really didn't see anything regarding 1 3/4" headers. I called Headmen Headers and he gave me some part numbers but couldn't give me a 100% that they would work. He told me to go on the website and look at pictures. I've also tried going on ebay for the cheaper headers but a lot of them don't include Cutlass Supreme and if they do they are 1 5/8"..
Thanks

Look up Hedmans as if you have a Monte Carlo, Malibu or El Camino when you search their headers for your car. All SBC powered A/G's for the whole '78-'88 run will use the same headers. Keep in mind, they all list nothing fits the Cutlass Supreme for some goofy reason.

Yeah I’ve tried that. Hedman has 1 3/4” shorties. I also think it has to do with what’s available. Because I highly doubt there isn’t any long tubes in that company. I’m open to any company. I’ll have to call hooker or flowtech when I get a chance. I’m really just hoping for info that people agree on. I just want It to go right the first time.

They should have long headers. Not to sway you but I have used their headers in the past as they are the only company that makes headers to work with factory clutch linkage. As for Hooker & Flowtech, go to Holley's site was they own both. Again look up as a Chevy to skip the don't fit Supreme headaches.

Like was said look up Malibu or Monte Carlo headers and also you want a 1 3/4 header for those heads. Yeah I know 1 5/8 would be fine on a street car, but they are a pain to seal with the larger exhaust port and small tubes. I had them on my 355 in my Nova 10 years ago and when you use the recommended header gasket, the header barely catches the gasket in places. I wound up having to use the gasket for 1 1/2” headers to seal on the port.

Well it may be a option at one point I’m going to say the hell with it. Thanks for the 1 1/2” gasket tip thou. Did you cut it out bigger? Did you have larger port exhaust at the time or were they stock heads

If you do go with the !-1/2" gasket don't try to port match it to the header flange or the port on the head. You may find that you will run yourself out of gasket and create thin or blowout spots if you do. As an option, go with with the solid copper exhaust gaskets and give them a good coat of Permatex RTV high heat copper sealer. The copper units can actually be warmed up using a propane torch to anneal them and make them soft again if they get work hardened.
