Good way to get started. I took my SIL and Grandson to our local Little Neck Bay for some early season Flounder. No flounder but the kid hauled in ten Stripers that jumped on the sandworms. All shorts. But the biggest was 25" and a shame to toss back but we did. 6 years old and already has more Stripers under his belt than some adults I know. IMG_0402.JPG

In Jersey you would need to have several go-no-go gages, reading glasses, and a law degree to interpret the various keeper 'slots'. Sportsman's paradise here.

Season is a couple of weeks away, we will be lucky if the ice is off our reservoir by then, unseasonably cold.

Back home the big lake still has a sheet of ice covering it. I do miss home.

Striped Bass opened April 15th but it has been very cold and windy. We caught a sunny day with high tide late in the day so the mud flats had a chance to warm up. The Bass responded and the kid had his hands full. I think the only thing better than catching fish is showing a kid how to catch fish.

Hmm, maybe showing him how to fillet a fresh caught fish and pop it into a frying pan right after you cooked some bacon and the bacon fat is still hot, over an open fire along with some slices of potato? Let him enjoy the whole experience before the tree huggers and weasel squeezers take all the fun out of it.

The absolute whole experience of doing all that and having a cold beer while waiting for dinner to cook will have it wait a bit. LOL.

I never want to be that guy, but that fish most likely died.

While it's come a long way, little neck bay still faces so much pollution and stormwater/sewage runoff issues where it's unsafe for humans to enter the water after rain.

That fish's days were likely numbered anyways, so, don't feel that bad
