Hey everyone, new here and I was wondering what style headers will work best with the stock clamshell motor mounts for clearance? Just dropped in a early model sbc 350 and the shorty headers I got are having mount clearance issues. Can’t get them lined up correctly due to hitting the mounts. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

You don't need to pull the engine. Loosen the long bolt on the opposite side you are working on. Put a board under the oil pan remove the nut on the motor mount you are working on jack up a tiny bit to get the long bolt to pull out. Jack the engine up so it pivots on the opposite motor mount.

Remove the bolts holding the bracket on, change brackets.

Is this my only option or can I possibly find headers that will work for my application?

There’s a couple ways to go. The brand can make slight changes. Are you going from V6 to V8? You may not be set in the V8 mounting holes on the frame.
Took me 3 different times to get the set to fit. Ended with a mix and match set. But I was dealing with a 5spd.

I went from a Chevy 307, to a Chevy 350 and used the same mounts. The 307 was running the stock cast manifolds . Everything slid right in and bolted right up when I dropped in the 350 and Im trying to avoid using the stock manifolds with this build.

If you end up buying new headers, I can tell you what headers NOT to get. Patriot H8047-1 ceramic coated headers. I'm not sure if it was just my car or not but I had nothing but issues getting them to fit.
Lots of banging, dimpling, cutting and swearing.

So this is an Olds 350 we be talking about here? Cause if that is the case, then you may be looking at a box of bends and a pair of flanges, aka do it yourself.
