Where and how much would I expect to pay for California Complaint Smog Legal Headers?
For “G” body cars
I heard Edelbrock makes them

Correction, they used to make them. Edelbrock discontinued their TES headers many years ago. Hooker also used to make smog legal 2050 headers that are also long discontinued. Used ones go for big bucks now. The aftermarket is simply not interested in making smog legal or direct fit performance options for G bodies.

Big bucks,,
$500.00, $1000 range?
Like an idea if that would be a option to consider.?
Used condition matters. thx

Probably about that range now a days. They were not cheap back when they were new and still in production, though they could be found fairly cheap used back a decade ago. Maybe check local junkyards as I seen a couple on junked F bodies. Also its common for used emission headers to have the AIR pipes snipped off. Wish I had better news. I believe there is a company that makes emission legal long tube headers but they are not direct fit. Can't remember the name of the company.

Hedman has G emission headers. Think those are the ones that also work with factory clutch linkage.

Don't you think it would be fair to say that they are not interested because VERY VERY few owners are interested in purchasing them? It wouldn't make much sense to manufacture something that there was literally almost no demand for.

I would imagine that if there was a huge demand for them, somebody would step up to fill the void, but maybe not. Once bitten, etc

Make sure you also get the EO certificate/sticker if you are dropping a grand on a used set.

The problem is there are fewer owners period. G bodies are growing older, the number of surviors is in decline, and the market for them continues to shrink as time passes. There is no real growth in the G body market compared to modern Camaro, Mustang, or Hellcat markets. Old car owners tend to be cheapekates, otherwise they buy new cars. Its why regular replacement parts are being discontinuted right and left let alone direct fit performance parts. Also does not help that G bodies are predominantly mid level Grandpa cars that were already outdated when new.

Moreover, there is the added expense of submiting parts to EPA or CARB testing to get legal approval. Then to top it off, G bodies seem to have developed a scofflaw culture around them regarding keeping them in road legal condition and flouting street legality. I don't see it nearly as much around most other car models. Many car forums completely forbid discussions about emissions tampering. You reap what you sow which is the rapid decline in parts availability and choices for these cars and it will keep getting worse.

TBF, cars in general are very bad about replacement part discontinuation. Other vehicle types are not nearly so bad. The OEM for my 1946 Farm tractor still sells most of the replacement parts for it, GM or the other auto manufacturers would never do that. Cars by design are more disposable than most other vehicles.

Going back to headers, Edelbrock simply decided to completely leave the exhaust market and so their TES headers got the ax. Hooker discontinuted their low emission headers fof G bodies around the same time but they still make them for F bodies. Which makes sense as G bodies were mainly Granny cars with a few performance sub models and only a fraction using SBC powerplants. While F bodies are sports cars and a much larger portion using SBC engines. F bodies in generally have a lot more goodies available than G bodies ever did.,
