Do the boot last after everything is in place. The push rod may not end up where you think it will.

Try a very small hole first. Stick a long thin rod through. See where it ends up. It is a very bad spot to try and re-weld in metal because you are off by a lot. Ask me how I know!:blam: The rod on our cars has a bend on the inside section so it is confusing where it will land.

Ok guys here’s a few pics for y’all for all the help ive received. Still got a long way to go but made some good progress this weekend. My kit was missing some hardware (mainly the cotter spring clips) and my shift arm hits the dash (will need to modify) so i cant test my linkages on the transmission just yet…but everything’s just about mocked up at least.

Question … see the pic.

Is the “washer” (red) the big felt washer?
Is the “spring” (blue) just a lock washer?

My Z bar has a hole tapped in the middle of the round shaft. Is this for a grease fitting? If so am i supposed to pump it full of grease?

The red circled washer is the felt washer, the spring is used to lock the ball stud & plastic bushings into the end of the Z bar.
They used a plastic plug in the grease holewhen the cars were built, packed with a heavy grease. I put a zerk fitting in the one used on the car but not yet on the spare.

Sorry all I have is a Corvette assy. manual with this info.

I have seen the hole with a plug and a zerk fitting.

The linkage rod ends get chassis grease and the pivot bar gets graphite grease.

I just looked it up in my '79 Cutlass assembly manual & it shows the same grease spec & p/n's for the grease, felt washer & spring. This one uses metric numbers & calls for .001 kgs of graphite grease for the ball studs & .005 kgs of grease for the rods.

Oh yes, I put the spring in the groove.

Should the z bar be packed with grease?
