I believe 565bbchevy has hit on the issue with a BBC and stock hood. You have to compromise somewhere.

How about dropping the engine an inch on the mounts? Obviously would have to cut/modify the crossmember and the trans mount, but it wouldn't be that difficult if one really wanted some performance from a BBC and also retain a stock hood appearance.

FWIW, I understand wanting to keep the stock hood - it says sleeper like no other.

That might work if he is using stock exhaust manifolds but If he is going to run headers I think dropping the engine an inch would cause far too any fitment issues for any off the shelf headers.

I ran the stock hood for a bit and liked it. But the rear tires gave away the sleeper concept IMO. After putting on the Sunoco hood, the options are limitless. There is nothing that won't fit under that other than a 6-71 or 8-71 blower.

I know we have extremely different power plants. But I mounted my FPR on top of a Trailblazer intake and it clears the hood by an inch. I can see it from the driver's seat. Being able to see uder the hood while driving is comforting. At night with the headlights on is even better.

I really need to get a video of it.

The best part of the hood is that even during a monsoon type rainstorm it doesn't get any rain water into the engine bay.

Okay, so after much consideration we are relenting and looking at cowl hoods. I really like the look of a two inch cowl version I saw. It's an all steel hood and appears to be well made. So, with that said, do you think I can run an "air gap" intake and a drop base air cleaner under the 2" cowl? We really don't want to go any higher on the cowl. I find the 2" looks quite natural vs 3" or higher. You all know more than me. Can I make this work?

You should be fine with that combination. I have a air gap intake and a drop base air cleaner on my 454 and it fits under the Harwood 2" cowl hood. By the way the hooker 2241 headers fit amazing!!!!!
