That's one approach- "If you don't like the flavor of the cake, then have your own party." Believe me, I would if I could. I'm still on the fence with it, but I can play devil's advocate for either case.

Based on the advertising, however, you would think that's what this event was. Legit.

Why not call it an "all GM" show and call it a day if there's an influx of non-G-body cars? I don't care how they run the show, but call it what it is, and don't pretend it's something that it's not. Were there like, only 5 non-G-body cars? If so, it's not a flood, but still, pick a direction and stick with it. I don't know what they do with the "entry fees" for non-G cars. I mean, what's the point? To get better parking? If they're herding all the non-G's into a certain outer area for display only (Yeah, I'm "body" shaming, so what?), I'm ok with that. But promote the event for what it is, not what it isn't. And partly, as I see it, some of the attendees are idiots for even attempting to bring something other than a G-body to the event in the first place.

And this event advertised as a G-body event, no? For a refresher, here it is. I didn't see any mention to bring anything else. The expectations are, based on what's below, that this is a "legit" G-body function.

I don't consider myself as a car-show elitist here. I'm all for car show inclusivity, when it's for any and all makes/models. Even motorcycle divisions. If it's got an engine, bring it. But you don't bring a Chrysler to an advertised Pontiac show. Not sure who the bigger moron would be. The one who brought it or the one who let them in. When there are restrictions, you either follow them or don't. And let the attendees decide for themselves if it's worth going to or not. But let everyone know what's going on.

Like I said, for me it's what they do with the proceeds afterwards. Follow the money. If it's for the benefit of G-bodies everywhere, I'm all for it whatever they decide. If it's just to put extra lining in their pockets, nothing wrong with that, but then why should I buy a bunch of gas, rent a hotel room, drive a zillion miles to go to the same type of show I can go to around here for 1/10th the cost?
I would say it was more than just a handful, but would also say that this was a show you wouldn't find anywhere local for any of us as a normal show. Heres a video since I only took pics of the more different stuff cause there was tons of minor differences to all the cars but didn't want to keep taking pics of the same

Not sure how I feel about the non-G entries to a G-body-fest. Why can't the guy with the G-body Riviera or whatever the f** that is that keeps posting here with the same drivel show up then?

On the one hand, I do see the "more the merrier" thing, but show up to an "all Camaro" or "all Ford" event or something with your G-body and try to crash that party. They'd likely take your car apart and haul it off one piece at a time! :) If you got 250 G-bodies in one spot, that ain't no small number. You want to bring a non-G, then go park in a corner WAAAAYYY back there in the back. If they used the extra money to develop new G-body reproduction parts that were worth a f**, then by all means, bring in others to support the cause.

OTOH, the whole point of the show is to showcase the G-body, NOT some other non-G-body vehicle. Otherwise, change the banner for the even to "G-body (and other makes/models of your choosing)". If it's about cash flow, then don't have the friggin' event if it can't be held afloat by the G-body participants alone. Everything always revolves around money, but if you're just doing it to raise cash, and will take any swingin' d*ck willing to pay, then F.U., I'm not interested in your "G-body" event because it's no longer one. Pretty soon you'll have all sorts of non-G-body participation and then it's just another car show because word will get around that anyone with an entry fee can get in. If you want to be a special event, then be fuggin' special. Not run of the mill. Sorry, at some point if I was going to this event every year and they keep diluting it, I wouldn't drag my azz half-way across the country just to show up to a car event I can go to locally.

JMO.

exactly.

the closest similar event we have around here is the Lonestar Roundup
"Registration is open ONLY to 1963 and earlier traditionally-styled american hot rods, custom cars and traditionally-styled bikes. No Imports, No cars newer than 1963 - please make sure you fit these requirements or your registration will be rejected - no exceptions."

and they do adhere to that. it's a nice 2-1/2 day event, lots of vendors and swapmeet, live music and having a cruise down the local drag

That white Monte SS with the cowl induction setup looked pretty cool at the 25:05 mark. I like how it looks sorta factory-ish. Thanks for the vid.

Or.... Call it a G-body show like it was since that was the intent or main draw for the event (a strong gathering of g-body's) & call it a day if other non-g rides show up but are willing to pony up an entry fee.
No premium parking for non g's. No 'judging' for non-g's. They're simply filler material since the g-crowd was not enough to fill the spaces allotted.

Sure, it would be great if there were enough G-'s accumulated for a once a year event but there clearly isn't @ under 300 cars. I just don't get criticizing the event because they allowed non-g's entrance. If you're not criticizing, @ least one person on this forum came away w/that impression after reading your statements.

They do allow post-63 vehicles into the show grounds area. I was there & we counted @ least a dozen late 60's - mid-70's vehicles.

It depends on what you tell them when you register. If the person taking your $$ isn't aware, you roll right in unimpeded.

It's ok if people get offended from my views. Since it's not pointed at anyone in particular, why should it be considered offensive anyway? But I don't mind if people are offended if they disagree with me. Make your own case, we can always discuss things. For the record, I wasn't criticizing the event, I was only pointing out there are two sides of the fence you can land on the way they seem to be handling things, and I'm not sure where I'd land on it. I'd have to know more to be swayed one way or another from my perspective. It's something everyone will have to absorb and consider for themselves. I like all-inclusive events, but if you keep letting in the non-G's into what's supposed to be a G-body event, then it becomes precedent, and the next thing you know, slippery-slope here and there, and then it becomes just another car show and the "special" factor is gone. For some people, this may make the difference whether they show up or not. You could keep it real if the only cars that matter are the G-bodies, and that could include people showing up with odd rods that aren't a G-body, but they'd be "silent" participants, as you pointed out.

250 G-bodies in one place is still pretty good numbers. The last time I saw 250 or more G-bodies in one place was the 1980s GM plant pictures of the temporary storage lots where they parked the cars waiting for transport. Maybe the event can get larger when gas prices (hopefully) get lower and people aren't feeling the economic pinch so much.

Offended is probably too strong of a descript so I wouldn't call it that. That being said, I did make my own case for the record & I too don't care if it offends you or anyone on your side of the fence (in case we're not on the same side ;) ).

I agree... I'm impressed it did as well as it did for g-body presence w/the cost of current fuel /travel expenses & hope the show continues to thrive.

I think it will once people get some more $$ back in their pockets. I think the first one was "ok" and it's getting better, but I believe it's going to get even better as years go by.

can't find my archive of show pics from there right now. I THINK I've seen some late 60 vehicles but I don't think they were allowed to register for the show. as you know, that thing has well over a 1000 cars

I watched part of the video that Frank Hooks posted. He was filming during the event, and he said that there wasn't enough room for all of the G bodies that came, and they had to rotate some cars out of the show area, so that others could come in. You could see a number of cars parked in the aisles, because all of the parking spaces were full.
