Diddly squat update #157.842

Got my Vue rear view mirror in tonight. 4 wires so nice and easy.

Better than the delaminated one that fell off anytime I launched hard at the track! Lol

That seems a bit bougie. You sure the rest of the car won't vote it off the island?

More information on the rear view please.

04-06 Saturn VUE. Grab about 1ft of harness that is stuffed under the headliner (you will end up slightly destroying the headliner in the donor car at the salvage yard unless you take the time to pull the board down, but I doubt any yard cares) and 4" of harness on the plug & the temp sensor under the core support. 2 wires run from the sensor to the mirror & 2 from the mirror to ign power & ground. I ran the 4 wires down the A pillar channel that holds the dome light wires.

There are some buick models that have map lights built in that can be tied into the dome light, but I am not aware of any that don't have the onstar button.

If you managed to pay less than that for a T56 you're doing good. I see them on CL used for $2000+ here for a Corvette box and no less than 1500 for an F body unit. Price out a new magnum if you want to feel good about what you're paying for parts.

If you can find an F body unit for 2k, that DOESN'T need a rebuild, you're doing good now. Good units are going for 3k. Which is crazy since brand new ones are only 3500.. glad I stumbled on mine for 1500...

It's an LT trans but considering i've had 6 years on it with no maintenance I am not complaining. It was $500 + a trade for a disassembled gen 3.5 5.3 with a bad lifter.

I've got the rebuild manual and a few videos bookmarked so I gotta page through that. Probabl pull the trans this week,

I stopped looking at them a couple of years ago when they were almost impossible to find in rebuildable condition for $1500.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph Jake, consider that thing is a kid and it needs some new school clothes and supplies. $750 is bargain, and look at the abuse it will take while still providing a smile on your face.

Geesh, that might not be the best of analogies haha.

Trans parts showed up Friday and I pulled the trans today.

Contacted the local T56 rebuild guy and he said he's too busy to have the leadtime I need so I am tacking this one myself.

Rear housing off!

The 5/6 driven gear is supposed to be a press fit.

Some people say they slide off easy, some people say they need a lot of force to pull it off. Mine slid off and exposed some noticeable spline wear. Not sure what to think. I'd need a replacement main shaft to fix that one. Not sure if that means problem or?? I don't plan on WOT 5 or 6th gear loading so it's not going to see a ton of load. People do claim they get vibration if the interface isn't tight.

One of the problem gears was reverse. It's tough to pull into gear. I assumed the blocker rings were worn but the tips of the syncro sleeve ring look pretty bad. Not sure if that is due to the blocker rings being worn or the clutch dragging or??

Figures they are out of stock.

The reverse gear is better but still iffy

And fully down
1661137788692.png

I still have some mainshaft disassembly to do, Im pretty sure I need to press the 1/2 syncro drum off the shaft so I need to get my press out for that.

Blocker rings look fine I guess?

For sure some goop inside the cavity
1661138053241.png

I also ordered a replacement 2nd gear because they say a newer 01+ viper spec one is wider, mine is a 97 and the same, so either I got a narrow gear or mine already had the wide one? Or I ordered the wrong thing?

Oh joy
