Is it an option if you're forced to order it dispite nothing else on the option list forces it? Guess it'll finace the EV conversion.

Does anyone actually use these services? I had the free year of whatever garbage Ram has, and used it probably 4 times to remote start my truck. And it was only a $10/month subscription with Sirius radio.

I had a free year of it with my Sierra. I had 2 conversations with Onstar. The initial delivery process at the stealership, and when the airbags went off when I hit a deer with it. As soon as the 1 year was up I declined renewal.

I have/had the "free" services which just was them keeping the Onstar button lit. Never sent the monthly emails on the truck from what they can read, never kept me informed on what features I did have to use. But they kept sending emails on upgrading & full cost "special" deal that would allow me to use full features untill the 3G system has it's plug pulled in December.

Not that I'd buy a new GM anyways but if I did, I'd press that damn button at least once a day to ask for directions to the nearest pharmacy so I can buy a tub of Vaseline for the next time gm wants to f*ck me.

I had OnStar on my CTS for 4 yrs. Whenever we went out of town, I always asked for the download of the directions. Used it a time when all my stuff went haywire on the road and they downloaded the software while I sat in a parking lot. Deleted towing from my ins since it covered towing. Wish they would have had wifi back then! We really wanted the peace of mind when the wife was on the road driving the car alone. All she had to do was push the button. Still have the car w/o OnStar since my new car has Audi Connect Service that I pay for.

I read somewhere that BMW is offering a subscription to heat your front seats. Hate to get my buns frozen cause I didn't renew the monthly subscription. I live in TX so you northern and Canadian friends know how cold seats get!

Back in the 80s, they didn't have all this BS on cars. They've slowly conditioned people to think that they "need" all this extra crap on their cars. Is it useful? Perhaps. You be your own judge on that. If you want to pay for it and use it, great. I'm not all that keen with it.

I have a phone with maps on it and navigational capabilities if I need it, and also a Garmin with lifetime map updates. Sure, the Caddy and GMC has all the bells and whistles, but meh, I've got BlondeStar only on the Caddy for the wife only because I want to make sure she is safe as possible when she's out by herself. 4 vehicles with OnStar capabilities would be a friggin' expensive deal for all 4. For me, fugg it. I don't want that sh*t.

I find it unbelievable when you call them and tell them not to extend the subscription. They want to offer great deals then because they don't want you to cancel, but won't give you any deal if you bend over and just renew it. So I usually just stop them mid-sentence and tell them no, just cancel it please. And they do.

To me, that unwanted mandatory option crap is like the BS the Olds dealership tried to do to me with the black 85 442. When it was delivery time, they said that it had this undercarriage rustproofing crap. Wait, I told them not to put that on, and now you want to charge me for it? Give you two options, scrape it off, or include it with the car. They gave it to me free. Could be what they'll do for idiots buying all these newer cars. Oh, yeah, ok, we'll just include it with the car, knock the 1500 off the price and you'll pay full sticker otherwise. They'll still win.
