Hey there - having trouble finding rear window struts for an ‘83 Cutlass Cruiser. Can anyone confirm they’re the same part as the ones on a Malibu of the same year?

Thanks
Steve

Be carefull and take your time with the attaching point on the glass frame. I've seen a number of these in the junk yards missing. The spot weld rust and break off the metal surrounding the glass.

They don't last long. I think I have changed them out about six times already. I used the "Strong Arm" brand.

You're right about that , Mark.
I've gone thru countless sets over the years and I'm due for new replacements. They just don't last long. The Strong Arm brand are probably the best, even though I burned thru a set of them as well. From what I can figure, the only way they would last is if the window was kept open and the struts wouldn't be compressed. It's too bad they couldn't be rebuild... cheaply.

That's all I use Jack and they fail regularly. I just changed them [again] and this summer I have taken to leaving the rear glass in the UP position so the tubes don't suffer from the heat in the DOWN position. I don't know why but the front hood struts on my other cars don't fail nearly as often. They live in a totally worse environment too.

Mark,
My friend who just recently purchased a new set of struts, also suggested leaving the hatch open to keep the struts from being compressed. I think I may use that practice this time around. The car spends most of it's time garaged so there's no concerns about anyone crawling inside.
