Does anyone know if the black aftermarket exterior locks are painted or anodized? I’m looking to get a set from Mike’s but if they’re painted, I’d rather paint my existing set and not waste more money on another set.

I have the black locks and handles. Handles and handle gaskets are junk.the locks are holding up well color wise but they seem cheaply made and use a different blank key so now I have to have 2 keys for the locks. One for the doors and trunk and the other for glove box and t-tops. Have them for 2 years or so possibly they have changed suppliers but I have no idea.

What year? Could make a difference.
83-88 MCSS. Mike’s listings don’t differentiate by years though, just black or chrome.

I got a set of handle gaskets from Mike’s last week, and they almost felt like they were made out of aluminum they’re so stiff. The set of locks I have are 3 years old from Lutty’s but I haven’t taken them out of the package yet.

Year makes a difference on your lock assemblies, up through 86 is one p/n, 87-88 is another for the locks. For the caps and key doors? No. They should all be the same.

The caps? Need just 2?

B&S caps, set of 2.

Maybe find some part number help here from Briggs. They made the locks, they should know.

Huh.... any idea what the differences are between the different locks? I am using 86-88 doors, but they didn’t have locks with them when I bought them. Different retaining clips maybe?

Thanks for the eBay link, I’ll pick those up at some point if they’re still available. Any idea on the P/Ns for the trunk lock by the way?

Actually, let me rephrase myself, any idea on where I might find those caps? There’s several places that sell the door lock caps by the dozen, but nada on the deck lock caps.

I don't know the differences between the years, just going by the part number differences of the lock (uncoded) assemblies. 87-88 p/n is 12330123 superseded to 12398554 for the doors.

87-88 trunk cylinder kit is 12330124. Superseded to 12398667. Comes with bright and black covers.

I got bright caps by themselves about 20 years ago. Came 20 to a box back then from GM. GM p/n 230018.

I can only seem to find door caps, so I’ll just find some NOS cylinder kits when I feel froggy about it, those are floating around everywhere.

Door lock caps or trunklid caps, the caps are all the same as far as fitment. The lock parts are a bit different, however.

Black caps are all the same part number. GM p/n 20496885
