Hey so I’m no expert but I’m helping a buddy restore an 85 cutlass salon. Just popped the rear end open today because I was unable to roll the axle under the car. It was origanally driven here with that axle and we didn’t notice anything major… but I’ll attach some photos

Oh and also only like 200ml of fluid came out so that was my first indication of sumthin wrong

Can anyone tell me what has happened here? Like how did the gears chew themselves like that

Looks like the pinion gear has been riding on the carrier. The pinion bearing must be completly worn out. See if the pinion moves at the drive shaft yoke.

7.5's are not worth repairing when you can replace it for the same money as a repair.

I may be biased, since I'm selling one!:)

Yikes! I recently saw battle scars like that on a 7.5 and the contact made by the pinion gear messed up the surface area so the pin had difficulty sliding out. Didn't think to investigate any further since the decision was made to use another rearend.
