New project: do I need to fix the garbage disposal? I used the garbage disposal today and it made an incredibly awful sound. I shut the garbage disposal off immediately. I found a piece of metal in the sink after shutting down garbage disposal. See pics

Q1. what is this piece of metal?

Q2. Is this piece of metal from the garbage disposal?

Q3. Do I need to fix the garbage disposal (GD now works normally and makes normal sounds)?

Many thanks in advance.

PS I have confidence that this group can figure this out.

1. Unknown, probably just something that fell in the GD. Looks like what is left of a rivet. Got any pans with the handle falling off?

2. If it was a rivet that holds on a blade it would have more pieces in there rattling around.

3. Sounds like all is well.

Momentary case of mechanical indigestion? Item sort of looks like an oversized cufflink to me. Part of the spout for the taps fall off and get through the crap trap?

I'm thinking it is the end of a pot or pan handle. I think it is foreign debris. Disposal is likely fine.

I addressed the faded cowl trim on the F150 today. Not sure why these fade at such an accelerated rate compared to all the other plastic on the truck but they do. I took both pieces off and used these Cerakote trim wipes that are supposed to last quite a while. We'll see how long they last but reviews are good and they smelled very chemical-y so I have high hopes.

I also installed a J&L oil catch can. The jury is still out on how beneficial these really are but it is unlikely to hurt anything and it's easy to remove if I ever want to take it off.

I've had a catch can on my truck pretty much since I've owned it, definitely works. Putting the Cam in it reduced oil consumption so there's that..

This engine doesn't consume hardly any oil but it is turbocharged and direct injected so it's probably a good idea to keep the intake tract as clean as possible. Seems to be a good supporting mod for potential future HP upgrades as well.

And the Rainier is officially on retirement duty.

I wanted to get it to 300K but at 288k it's close. Severe frame rust has put it out of towing duty and with the pickup in the fleet there isn't motivation to weld yet more plates to the frame.

Not worth selling because a strong Gen 3.5 aluminum 5.3 is worth a decent amount to me, it's still a perfectly good running vehicle, and my Mother In Law has a 4.2 Rainier as her daily so it's worth keeping around for a spare or (gasp) temporary parts car.

Plus the MIL has a spare garage stall since I sold the wagon and i'd get pennies or deal with the scum of Craigslist if I tried selling it.

So it sits in the mouse-house cabin garage until I decide what to do with it.

Find a roll over wreck with a good frame and laissez les bontemps roulent! Salvage the frame from the corpse and do a frame swap. Roll an S-10 frame under it and get crafty. As long as it is not a unit-frame construction where the frame and body have been welded to each other for good, then if you are serious about keeping it just be patient and a suitable corpse will make an appearance that has what you need. (yeah, yeah, I know, Dreamer, you know you are a dreamer.................)

Not the most inclusive pic, but how's this for some frame envy? I may have posted it before.
