I’m installing a stereo in my 79 cutlass. The car is very clean and un molested, so anything I modify will be something that can be easily un done. I picked up a radio bezel and some kick panels, I would like to find speaker grills for the dash but if I can’t find them I will make some.

I have a lot of audio gear lying around from previous installs, so I’m going to use what I can. I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoy music so it’s a must for me.
The plans;

JVC single din deck
Soundstream synthesis dsp
Kenwood X-802 5 channel amp
Undecided mini amp for midbass
8” dayton rs225 mid bass in the kick panels
3” dayton rs75 mid range in the dash
1-1/8” dayton rs28f tweets in pods on a pillar
10” Kicker comp vr sub

The sub may not be used, but I have the channel for it so I will Atleast wire it up. I am going to mount the amps below the dash on the passenger side. I will Fiberglass everything, cover it in vinyl and use a dye to match it to the interior the best I can. I will post pictures as I go.

I ditched almost all of the gear I have and bought different stuff. I’ll post pictures up soon. I’m making it as bolt in as I can.

I do have a question, does anyone know a paint code for a close matching interior color? I’d like to spray a single stage semi gloss on the kick panels and tweeter pods. It’s all going to be in primer so I really don’t need an “interior” paint. I really like sem stuff and they have something that will work. Id just rather spray it through a gun and save a few bucks

Dark Carmine. Color code 74. If you have a cowl plate under the driver side wiper arm, it probably has the interior color code 74 there with RPO of seats, scheduled build week, etc.

Ditzler #: Semi-gloss is 72273, Low gloss is 72291
Dupont #: Semi-gloss is 45224, Low gloss is 45243

Thank you very much! There is a tag on the cowl, I tried looking up the axle ratio with it but didn’t have any luck. As long as that code gets me close I’d be happy.

Very nice. I hardly see decent interior around here. I got stuck doing the radios at the dealership, I accidently fixed one and after that got all the dash and radio work.

My GF in H.S. had the sedan such as yours, don't see many that body style in that good of shape as yours.

I know where a 79 coupe is, I'll check out this coming week.

Very nice ride you have.

Thanks Delta88! I doubt I’ll see another one like it in my area.

I’ve been slowly working on it, Got the kicks glassed and need to wrap them in vinyl. I wanted to use the stock speaker grills but doesn’t look like they will fit. I’ll have to make something.

I used toy Easter eggs for the tweeter pods lol. I ended up getting a cheap krylon paint that matched close.

When I did mine we made a couple of adapters to fit them in on the dash, I had bought a 3 piece component from Hertz. One I put in the door, one in the dash, and one tweeter above it. Went with a similar plan as yours to color match

That looks awesome! Do you have a subwoofer? I’m still undecided if I am or not. Where did you place your amp? I’m considering under the dash in the passenger footwell. I’m running a small JBL dsp 8ch amp.

Appreciate it, I am not running a sub at the moment but I did run the wire when I was setting everything up so that I could down the line. Too much space in the trunk taken up by the air ride, I am running an amp and 2 crossovers that I put in under the bottom head unit since the HVAC and everything has been deleted I had space to use which is why I went with the huge head unit. Since that pic I think I upgraded both head units
