El Camino, formerly from Texarkana Texas, now in Perth Western Australia. We just did not get these cars in Australia so this will be the first G Body I have the pleasure of learning about and there is so much to learn. Previous owner has installed what looks like a truck roller cam 454 with a highrise manifold and Holley carb, T400 combination and I think installation needs to be improved. Sump hits the cross member, engine mounts are not nice with spacers lifting the right (Passenger) side of the engine higher than is should be. I am sure there will be a preferred sump and mounts for this conversion and I would appreciate any and all suggestions and guidance.

Thank you all in advance, I have been reading through many threads and I must admit I am getting confused.
Cheers, Stu Bond Perth WA Australia

Welcome to the site. As for the engine lean you most likely will need a set of '73-'88 A & G body engine side mounts (BBC & SBC will use the same set in our cars). A oil pan for a Chevelle or Camaro will do better than that truck pan.

Thanks for that, I have worked out the engine is a 1993 L19 454, looks big and goes small until the heads get opened up I have been told. What year Chevelle or Camaro would be appropriate to get clearance? I read about a 4 quart sump being available but it is very hot here and that sounds like chaos. Are the sump rails the same on early BBs and Gen V engines? Do I need to change the pickup? Sorry if I am asking the obvious, but anything I order will take 10 weeks to get here and I would hate it to arrive wrong.

Ehh, my car is using the small block mounts and the truck pan doesn't interfere. There are a jillion holes drilled in some of these kembers, probably just need to move the mounts. Mine has the same boat anchor peanut port heads with a GenVI bottom end, but is an L19 service replacement.

Also, I must say I am disappointed. I expected an Aussie to begin a thread with g'day mate!

Double checking a few things, there is a difference between '90 & older vs. '91 & newer (per you gen BBC) with oil pans but the pick up looks to be good. With the difference with the pans you'll have to look into an aftermarket. But before you start digging into ordering everything suggested ensure the motor install is done correctly with the frame side motor mounts are bolted in the correct location with the correct mounts (same as for a SBC). Just getting the correct mounts could place the motor where is should be & won't need a pan swap. Another issue which I should of brought up in the last post was if the pan is an aftermarket 5 quart. Even possible just it being a 5 quart pan may just be the issue. A 4 quart would be a bad pan to use if it's all about the needed clearance.
