I would remove the emissions stuff, put on an edelbrock performer intake, holley carb, Mallory HEI and dial in timing and carb.
See now something like that I can/would want to do…almost like bolt on upgrades…I’ve done a lot of work since getting my car and I have bigger jobs to do to it so this would be something I consider if that would make it easier…any other specifics to doing this kind of work that I would need?

So what youre saying is, to each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities?

Did I get that correct?

We've talked many time about cars, much advice or input given. And now you claim I'm all of a sudden someone you'd never associate with because I disbelieve in the 'equity' farce. That's too bad, and very closed minded.
No, I am saying if someone asks you for specific information, you can give it even if you, feel it is not the best, or right way.

He asked for removing emissions, and people are telling him to swap an engine.

To me, that is no different than if I was a non car inclined driver who went into a shop asking for a repair on a engine misfire, and even though it was just a head gasket lets say- then have them tell me it's better to rebuild the whole engine because damaged may have occurred, from having it run like that.

Yeah, is it optimal? Sure.

Is it economical, or sensible for that persons SPECIFIC situation? No.

And true, we have talked about that.

But theres also, something called true colors as well. And sometimes that comes out, when people are tested.

One of the many reasons, why many families and friends stop talking to each other.

What I am saying is, try to be a bit more humble and think of others situations first.

Even if you think, people should do it a certain way.

Let them know how you feel, but then let them figure it out. Trial and error is how we all started, that's all 😎💪

Removing emissions equipment to improve power is pretty much a wives' tale. Its not the low emission systems that do most of the power restricting, its how the engine itself is set up internally that is the major factor. The stock engine in El Caminos is the low performance LG4 version of the 305 which is a utility engine. Removing the emissions will do squat to improve power and more likely will reduce power, drivability, and MPGs. Plus converting a CCC engine to non CCC costs a good bit of money for zero performance improvement. Some say to swap the engine instead because a larger displacement engine with better internal specs will net much bigger gains for the money spent. This takes care of the true underlying barriers to performance.

The OP indicated he mainly wants to remove emissions for cosmetic reasons and many here including me advise against this because deleting emissions is opening a can of worms. That is besides the legality issues of tampering with emission controls which can reder a car illegal for street driving.

Moreover, the low emissions package varys with each engine option and model year. The OP needs to perform research and study repair manuals and videos. Here are some service videos I have linked. ,https://gbodyforum.com/threads/gm-ccc-service-videos.76761/

Ok. How is what I am saying an opinion?

Nobody is being paid here to speak either. You do it, because you aren't a hollow human being, and care about the classic car community, period. If you want to make $ off it, I'm sure you know better than me to flip and fix someone elses ride.

As I am literally, just going off peoples own words here. And no....I am not trying to shun anyone, I am trying to get these 3 basic questions, STILL answered.

1. If OP, is talking emissions removal, why are we now telling him to remove his ENGINE. This kinds of off topic, crap happened in Tynan's thread and honestly, as annoying as he was?

I find it hilarious, how we will give all our motivations for pages and multiple topics, to help someone who didn't even care, to help stay on task.

But then look here, we went from one side of the big picture, to the other in seconds- same thing ironically shunned him for- which was not listening, and doing all this extra stuff?

Well what do you expect, then from OP if he goes in asking about emissions removal, and everyone goes "DROP IN A 350" 🤦‍♀️😂😂😂

2. Again, it's not an opinion that everyone does not have access to an lift, engine hoist or tools.

Start remembering, people have less privilege than yourself. When someone, asks you for advice on something, he might be asking it specifically- because he might not be able to afford, what you or I can.

3. Exactly!!!!!!

So if you and others feel that, why are we not pushing him in that direction, first before telling him to pull distributors, carburetors and swapping engines?!

I have literally, been trying to push that for 3 pages, given how members here have recommended, time and time again on keeping CCC in the past- and everyone keeps ignoring that.

But, at the end of the day, it is OP's decision.

All I know is, from a perspective of empathy for others- if this was my introduction to this forum I would, have seen it in a... much different way 🤦‍♀️😂😂😂
Three questions. 3 answers.

1. I never said to remove the engine. He asked about removing the CCC system, thus in order to do that, there are minimum requirements to replacing some equipment with older stuff so it can continue to operate without the CCC. Threads get off on tangent because of simply trying to suggest another avenue. 50 ideas tossed out there. It's the OP's job to sift through the stuff and decide what, if anything, would pertain to him. Many ways to skin the cat. If it doesn't apply, then ignore it. Not to beat that dead horse, but Tynan's issue(s) was/were deeper than asking a question then going with sound advice. He marched to the beat of his own drum, and that's cool and all, but I soon realized I didn't want to be in his parade with him as the lead drummer. So I quit suggesting things to help fix his car.

2. Yep, it's true. Nobody likely has every tool, or ability, or knowledge to do everything. But there's ALWAYS someone, somewhere piping in on how to get around some things on a shoestring budget. Sometimes it's tougher, but hella cheaper. Keeping your eye on the prize usually gives you the motivation to go over, around, or under the wall. If you can afford it, and it makes sense, buy or rent what you need to get the job done. But, sometimes you just have to farm stuff out. Goes with the territory. Like I'll NEVER do paint/body work because it's not that I couldn't learn, I just have no desire to spend a lot of time learning a skill I know I'm not good at. I'd rather pay someone to do it right and make it nice.

3. I don't make decisions for people. I'm not an advocate of ditching CCC. But I'm not standing in anyone's way that wants to. Everyone will answer the same question differently based on their own knowledge and experience, and how they interpret the question. Some people just ask questions seeking validation of what they're going to do anyway. Others ask because they truly just don't know. Like you pointed out, it's the OP's decison on where it goes from here. The OP saw something at a car show he wants to emulate, so options were given. I don't think anyone is intentionally trying to steer him in the wrong direction. With mods and hot rodding, there really isn't a wrong direction, though.

No matter your experience level, you don't know everything. Learning is constant. The only time you should stop learning about anything is when you're dead. YMMV.

One bad thing is MSD dumped the Mallory HEI & related parts in favor of their own after they acquired Mallory.

The inexpensive HEI units on Ebay work well for the budget minded, I ran one for a few years in my Regal before switching to a full MSD set up.

I’ll jump in.

Bring it by my house and we can figure out what route you want to take and what will make sense with your budget.

That being said, forget about ”codes” and all the garbage that goes with the Wargames era computing to diagnose what is going on.

Here in Texas, safety inspection = get it running right.
