Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

Got the engine all together and it's not oiling the top end when I prime it, picking up a oil pressure gauge to see how much pressure it's making and go from there. Went to install the shift kit in the 700r4 and the separator plate for the valvebody is HAMMERED. Two check balls were pushed...

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

Crappy picture but I got the heads on and torqued, threw the valve covers and intake on to keep the dirt out. Making slow progress!

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

Well it's been cold out and I'm really broken so progress has been slow, I finally brought the heads inside to replace the valve seals. I have the wrong valve seals to put back on so another trip to the parts store tomorrow! Thinking about doing the "ghetto grind" on the stock retainers so I can...

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

Thanks guys, I may clearcoat them. Im trying to balance wanting it to look nice with really wanting to drive it again, the budget is real tight right now because I'm still not back to work. Luckily the only big purchases I have left to make are getting the driveline shortened and fluids! Unless...

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

Did some sanding on the valve covers today. I primed them, painted orange then black, sanded through the black to give it a bit of a weathered look. Hoping it looks better on the engine, I'm not terribly happy with how they turned out but not upset enough to strip and paint again lol.

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

The drivetrain should work nicely with the torquey vortec with the 700r4 and 3.42 gears, I'm not looking for anything too terribly fast for now. The last time I drove it I had the 305/th350c in it, I doubt I'll be disappointed with the new drivetrain!

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

Latest two pictures, bottom end it together! Have to throw the timing set on and replace the valve seals and I'll be ready to throw the engine together the rest of the way and into the car! Tbi 350 and 700r4 from the 89 Chevy I'm parting out. Using the transmission for the wagon and the 350...

Back from the dead 83 Malibu wagon!

tried to respond to my old build thread but it's apparently been locked? Anyways I picked up an 83 Malibu wagon in 2014 with an anemic 305 and a slipping th350c, pulled the engine and trans and started working on a 350 but divorce and a motorcycle wreck that almost killed me got in the way of...

    83 wagon "blue"

The guy called me back a week later and it has a rod knock, I plan on daily driving this thing after the engine swap so I decided to continue with the vortec 350 in search of better mileage. Going to get some pictures of the vortec today and post them for ya guys,.

    First time wagon owner intro

Hey man I got a 200R4 length driveshaft if you end up needing one I'll make you a good deal, I got a TH400 conversion that I'm not going to use and the TH400 and 200R4 use the same length driveshaft.
