What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

Imported a G-body expert from Switzerland and together we pulled the motor and transmission out of the wagon. Tomorrow we change cams in the fresh 350 I built two years ago. It's a roller cam block (with fuel pump pad drilled :) ), so I'm pulling out the unfired GM 24502476 (330HP 350) hydraulic cam and replacing it with the GM 14097395 Ram Jet 350 roller cam I found on EBay. If I am lucky, the Goodwrench 350 we pulled out may only require a hone, and later I will drop in some GM 12514101 pistons, also found on EBay. More posts tomorrow.

Took the wagon to the car wash after dropping off littlest guy at preschool. Two cans of engine degreaser and $10 in quarters, I found bare metal behind the centerlink. Final cleaning with brake cleaner over a big piece of cardboard. Then one of my two remaining cans of zinc primer. Then Eastwood's Underhood Black.

While the paint was drying, I opened up the 200-4R and installed the Painless Wiring non-computer lockup kit. The lockup solenoid requires special studs - missing from the kit - audible equivalent of 'dumb looks are free' from their Tech Support line. Rigged it with M6/M8 automotive studs and nuts from the hardware store.

I renewed the registration on my grand national. Does that count for working on it?

I haven't driven the car in nearly 2 years. I ordered a new transmission and waiting impatiently for it. Maybe this year I will drive it again.

Trying to figure out a rotational noise at idle, almost a clicking gets louder as I drive but goes away at about 15MPH, but returns when at a light. I'm thinking fan clutch.

Confirmed my transmission is on the way. Thanks Lonnie!

Cleared garage space. Moved dead cutlass parts around to make space. Loaded a trailer with a dead Chevy trans, a dead Hurst 307, and all sorts of other 'what was I thinking trying to save these parts'.

Maybe the garage will be a workable area soon...

Completed the cam swap very late last night, then installed the lifters and 8-plates this morning. Buttoned up the motor, then formed a fuel line to run from the Edelbrock down to the fuel pump. Tricky job, since I will be going with a Camaro serpentine setup. Stabbed the motor - fastest insertion ever - no trans, so it sat right down on the motor mounts. Swapped the front seal on the 200-4R, then filled the torque converter. The hardest job all day was getting it off the ground and up onto the trans jack. The old Jegs TH350 crossmember I had, needs the perch swapped front to back, but I also need to 'shave' a quarter-inch off the center to clear the rear part of the pan. I am not sure if ordering the TH400 crossmember will trade one set of problems for another. This has been one serious thrash to get this far in three days. I will write up the build when I have more time.

I just bought an '87 Regal Limited Turbo last week. Today I removed the extensive wiring that the previous owner had in it for a killer sound and security system. Now that it is all removed I am going to focus on fixing (or replacing) the power master brakes so I can drive the car. I am a former vintage Mustang restorer having fun with a G-body.

While washing nine loads of kids' laundry, I ordered some bits to complete the trans swap with an Edelbrock and new new 200-4R cooling lines from Inline Tube. Blackmailed the kids into helping me fold and put away their clothes before I would burn a flick. While they were plugged in, I installed the TV cable and trans dipstick. Need a bolt for the TV cable. I think it's an M6x20 (uses a 10mm wrench).
