Rear Shock Tower Brace for the 1978-1988 GM G-Body
P/N 3055
Priced at $129.99/each

UMI Performance, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of our new G-body rear shock tower brace. This 100% jig built, bolt-in brace ties the rear upper shock mounts together to share the load and stiffen the chassis. Strong 1-1/4” tubing is MIG welded to 3/16” thick laser cut brackets for a perfect fit. Hardware is included to make this a true, easy bolt-in installation. This brace is designed to clear all of the popular exhaust systems and works equally well on coilover setups and traditional spring/shock combinations. All UMI products are built from US Steel and are available in black and red powder coat. The 3055 is manufactured, tested and raced out of Philipsburg, PA – USA.

Any pics with this installed? I think I did very similar to what this does with a piece of 3/16 wall 1 inch square tube. But not 100 percent sure.

I welded a brace in from shock mount to shock mount to reduce flex in this are during launch. It really stiffened the rear part of the frame. I notched my frame also so I figured it couldn't hurt. It also doesn't interfere with any of the body.

I did the same exact thing, with the exception of schedule 40 pipe instead of the square tubing.

I installed it on my Cutlass with a spring/shock combo. Had to pull at the shock mounts pretty good to get the bolts in. Proof that these shock mount ears move around a bunch! I have no quantifiable before/after track testing, but after seeing how you can tweak the pads by hand and how solid everything was after install, I'm sure it makes my rear shocks more effective, even without coil-overs! I would say this is a must with coil-overs.
