I got the new motor tonight, Ill take some pics in the AM. So im have issues with searching the site, not the sites fault. my operating system is very dated. If anyone can post a link for ignition threads, im looking for ideas, lI might just get all the parts from napa, rather then go all out on high dollar parts. Im poor!

Any advice on what parts to stay away from,or go with? possible parts lists i.e. wires,cap,distributor,rotor..ect, that would really be awesome. any HEI tuning/timing tips to make the best of a budget ignition system. any tricks on wiring like diy terminal connections to clean up the wire harness.

I'll be pulling all the smog stuff, any advice on where to re-route vacuum lines what i should keep or if i should keep all of it???

thanks for any help.

Thanks, I was just curious. kinda neat looking.

if you can pull a rear pic, the taillights are even cooler!
if you read through longroof's and liquidh8's build threads, they have dabbled in the wagon euro/import tails.. cool and unique look

The small block Chevy uses the very front set of holes and yes it uses only three. One corner of the mount hangs off the front of the crossmember. Here's a pic..

On my build l won't have any of the smog equipment but my car didn't have any of it when I bought it. The emissions stuff doesn't hurt power much if it is all working. The biggest parasite is a worn out/plugged 'dutch oven' catalytic converter.

I absolutely suggest keeping the evap canister. I would also keep the PCV and the crank case breather.

On the tune up, on a budget just stick with good quality name brand parts and you should be fine. I have a Davis Unified Ignition distributor that was custom curved to my setup but I wouldn't call that a budget approach. What carb are you going to use?

Also, what are the smog regulations/inspection requirements for your area?

I have no smog regulations, no testing, inspections, nothing. where is the evapcanister? i dont have a manual yet im still winging it. my plan as of now is no emissions, bare bones if you will.. like throttle, down kick, P/B vacuum, heat, distributor..Drive it!

Im running a holly 600 Its still being rebuilt at the carb shop. the carb dude tells me he'll have all the right brackets but if not we can bend something.

The evap canister should be in the driver's side front corner of the engine bay. Its a black cylinder that's around 5 inches in diameter. Keeping it in tact provides a fuel tank vent and keeps the fuel smell down when the car is parked in the garage. Some guys just put a breather filter on the vent line with good success though.
