Other than maybe 78 cause they got the funky hubs. I'm looking at Summit Racing for drop spindles for my 81 El Camino. I want Bell Tech but they list them from 1985 to 1988?????? Whats the difference?

You might want to consider a Blazer Brake upgrade. I believe they are drop spindles with bigger rotors and calipers. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in on whether they are drop spindles . I had heard they are. I have several sets of the Blazer set up...timo22

blazer spindals are the exact same dimensions, but you gain larger brakes (2 piston) and sealed bolt on hub. now it has to be the 2wd blazers

Stock Blazer spindles don't offer any drop but you can buy drop spindles for the 2wd Blazer and they will bolt on and then you can benifit from the Blazer brake upgrade.

I believe 78-81 had a different outer bearing. Other than that, they're all the same.

I thought that only the 1978 cars had the different size outer wheel bearing, and that the spindles were the same from '79 up.

Regardless of what the Allstar catalog says, the transition year from small outer bearing (A2) to larger outer bearing (A3) was 1979.

All 1978 and some 1979 had the smaller outer A2 bearing. Most 1979 and all 1980 and up had the larger outer A3 bearing.

Rockauto list an A2 outer bearing for 1978 only and a A3 outer bearing for 1979 and up.

That being said, an s10 dropped spindle will work on any year g-body, as long as you use the correct 1980 and up rotor and larger A3 outer bearing.

i bought some dropped spindles for a 78 malibu and the bearing did not fit so i am guessing i can get a bearing to fit the i.d. of the rotor and the o.d. of the new spindle i bought (advertised as g body 1980 and up.). what is A2 or A3 mean?
