I have a 81 malibu with a Ford 9in rear end. I have a set of rally wheels and they are wrapped with a 235/60/15 tire. Just curious how wide of a tire and fit without a mini tub? Looking at buying a set of drag radials and want to get as big of tire as I can. Thanks for the help

I agree a 275/60 on a 15 x 8 rim with around 4" of backspace is about as big as you can go without a frame notch.
This also only applies if the 9" is a bolt in housing that is factory width.

I've had 15x10 slotted aluminium mags with 295/50/15's on a stock 7.5 rear end, with a slight fender roll(very slight). No rubbing! It was an '87 Cutlass.

The 9" puts an unknown element into the mix. I ran 275/60 on factory AL 3.75" BS 7" rims for years with a std width drum brake 8.5".

7" is non ideal for a 275 tire, but they won't rub the frame (except slightly when are taking hwy off ramps faster than the posted speeds) and they would good for 1.6 60 fts. Good enough for a street radial.. 8" wide/4" BS would yield similar fit.
