Just picked up this '84 Monte the other day. 305/TH250/2.29, runs and drives great, computer equipment still hooked up, 6-seater, California car bought new in '83 at Walt Davis Chevrolet in Elk Grove. The original owner, Jay, died in a car accident in the early 2000's, his father, Johnny, took the car, as well as Jay's '85 Grand Prix T-Top and held onto them until 2016. He's fixing up the GP and I got the Monte. No check engine lights, computer flashes code 12(functioning correctly), it shifts smooth, but a little firmer if you get on it, just the way I like it. Jay and Johnny both took great care of it mechanically. Someone bought it from Johnny and had it for two months, but he lowered it, painted it, and drilled some half-*ss "speed holes" in the air cleaner(I'm assuming to make it louder) before I could get it. Original color was 'Bahama Blue'. I'm not a fan of 81-87 Monte's, but it was too cheap to pass up. I met Johnny when I saw the cars sitting out front of his house, I rolled up in the Cutlass, knocked on the door and we talked cars and told stories for hours. A great guy to talk to and hang out with. On a side note, he told me he once used a bootlace as an emergency fan belt in his '77 Monte Carlo on the side of the highway and it got him home. I'm planning on making it a daily while I give the Cutlass some much needed love. I've already done the plugs and wires; air filter, PCV filter, and oil change were already done when I bought it. I'll probably change the trans filter and fluid soon as well as the fuel filter, I bled the brakes and checked the pads, put some grease on the caliper bolts(kind of rusty and dry as a bone). I'll change or fix anything I can see wrong with it. I'm planning on making it a daily while I give the Gutlass some much needed love. Sorry for the bad pics, I'll add some more later.

Looks like you've found a solid car. I want a second G Body so I can drive one and work on one as well. Your car looks a little like one on the local Craigslist. I thought it was the same car until I looked at all of the pics.

This should be a good daily driver. I daily drive my '86. The biggest problem I've had is finding parts sometimes.

So, you're basically planning on leaving it stock and repairing any problems that arise with driving it?

Exactly. All my friends are trying to get me to build it, or boost it, or cut the brand new exhaust off of it(stock, new exhaust). I'm not gonna build it, and the Cutlass needs a lot of work still, I probably shouldn't have been using it as a daily for as long as I have. I wanted a daily driver that I could enjoy, have fun with, and something that looks cool too, so I figured, why not G-Body?

I can't argue with you there. Lol. I love driving my Monte Carlo. I want to build an all around car that can handle, stop and accelerate well but it's hard to do that while driving it everyday! Lol.

Got a few more pictures today. The overflow tank was shattered, so I went with a good old glass wine bottle for now. The carb has definitely had some old gas in it, looks like hell and smells like varnish, but it runs great. I should probably clean it up or rebuild it, but as I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. As i'd expected from a California/Nevada car, not much rust at all, just the little bit of flakiness on the trunklid. Solid frame and body with no dents.

I think it needs a matte or satin blue or white coat of sealer or paint and some 15x7 Rally wheels and drive it!

Took the Monte out about a couple of weeks ago. This thing needs a set of wheels and tires badly. I've got some aluminum 15's on the side of the house that'll give it a good 1990's style street car look, I'll probably throw them on when I get some tires. I'm also in the process of rebuilding the carb, just waiting on some secondary metering rods and she'll be back on the road.

Been daily driving the Monte Carlo for the last few months. Did great in the snow and rain, never came close to being stuck in the snow and ice, even with the 2.29 peg-leg rear end and summer tires. I did get my 15" sawblades put on a few months ago as well, changes the whole look of the car. I also recently took both cars out to cruise with a friend of mine.
