What the master switch is not showing you in that diagram is there is a 6th wire that grounds the switch to the door. That's the wire that grounds everything.

By the diagrams the motors are grounded to the door. The switches have constant power and connects the power the appropriate wire.

That diagram is very misleading-apparently the only one that seems to pop up on Internet searches show the same one-it is 1978 only. 1979-88 have a black wire to the switch which grounds under the dash on a ringlet along with the other grounds above the kick panel under the 10mm machine screw which secures the lower LH side of the dash.

I build these harnesses NEW and the first time I looked at a 78 harness-it threw me for a second lol! 78-older power window switches on g and a bodies do ground to the door shell-but GM got a little smarter for 1979 and swapped to reverse polarity motors. You can tell 1978 by the switch itself too-it's stainless vs plastic.

thanks for that info, now that you mention it I do remember a black wire on the harness for my driver's door window switch.
