l am using a 2009 6.0 VVT Express van tune loaded on a factory E38 ECU. Any 6.0 or 6.2 harness would work with mods. The key is using a newer ECM that can manage VVT. The older red / blue connector ECMs won't work. If the harness does not have VVT, adding the 2 wires to the plug is not a big deal. Pin numbers are 44 and 52 on connector X2. Regarding the RPM switch idea, the older VVT phaser technology uses a fixed 2 position control (not variable) so it might work. I just haven't heard anyone doing it successfully. Personally I struggle with putting an old school carburetor on an modern engine and would make every effort to keep EFI. Later you will be glad you did. Many people do a carb and later upgrade to EFI. Beaterolds (Doug) is one of them.

If you haven't studied the harness layouts this is a good resource.

Thanks Ill definitely look that over when I have to study it. I agree on efi being better for my application. I like it. In my case I was planning to just take my time, wait till I have everything i need and do the 6.0 with texas speed cam, efi, retain the AC, etc. My problem is Im starting to have issues with my small block and I have things I need to take care of at home. (like a new roof for one). I cant see spending to much time and effort on the small block having the 6.0 but I dont have everything I need yet.
At this time I need to make the swap as simple as possible. swap out the vvt, either sell it or save it for later, and intake and carb msd, Drop it in and continue to enjoy the car, take care of my house things, and Then I can continue to acquire the parts to do the efi the right way later on.
If I insist on Efi out of the gate, Itll just complicate things financially and time wise, Ill can end up with the car sitting for longer than I want it to.

Well we have wondered off to the vvt and efi vs non vvt and carb on this one. Which is ok the more I learn the better. Im thinking of offering the guy 300 bucks, he has the alternator w/bracket, PS w/bracket AC compressor w/bracket and the tensioners all from an 01 ws6 firebird. To make it work I would need the right water pump, and crank pulley and notch the frame for the AC. My question is If i bought this would the parts bolt up to the LY6 with 823 heads and engine or are holes for the brackets any different? should I stick with getting the truck stuff and just an aftermarket bracket to lower the alternator?

Seems like I saw threads on LS1 Tech about having to drill one hole in the block when putting F-body accessories on truck blocks. If I remember right the truck block has the boss for the bolt hole but it isn't drilled from the factory. We didn't have to do that with the Corvette accessories.

A little update. I finally bit the bullet and bought an entire ls3 set up from a guy on ebay. Im getting the alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, the crank pulley and water pump (i know I dont really need the crank pulley and water pump). The water pump has the upper hose in a more desirable location than the original truck water pump. Im getting all the pulleys and tensioners too. Im pretty stoked. I will always know what belt I need, no guessing or trying different belts till I find the right one and years down the line trying to remember what the part number was lol.
No I still need the motor mounts, oil pan, cam, valve springs, sprocket , timing chain (might as well while im there), cam cover, and either a intake, carb, and msd, or wiring harness and ECU. I figure I should have everything by the end of the decade. lol

Here is a pic of the Corvette accessory drive in my brother's 78 Z28. With his we used a Holley bracket and an R4 for the A/C. It's good you got the balancer and the water pump. There are three different depths with respect to the location of the belt to the front of the block. In other words, a Corvette accessory drive won't work with a truck balancer. I suggest the ARP balancer bolt when you swap the balancer. You can't reuse the original bolt since it is torque to yield (TTY), and a new TTY bolt is a pain (in my opinion) to properly tighten.

That's sweet looking. Thanks for the info. It is an ls3 from a c6 from what I understand so I'm lucky it's coming with everything. beecause i thought it was going to work with the truck balancer.

You need long (truck and VVT) accessories for that engine.
Also, the truck compressor stands a chance to fit depending on engine mount brackets.
