Welcome. That's a good looking Cutlass. I see you've already experienced how helpful members are here.

I'm not much of an expert on Oldsmobile engines, I'm a Chevy guy. I do know that '71 was right at the peak of the horsepower wars and right before emissions killed all the fun. I would think that would be a decent swap but I'd take a real Oldsmobile guy's opinion over mine.
If your state has very strict emissions laws, you will need to check to see what's allowed.

Welcome OhGee; Quote "i havw a chane to drop a 350 rocket out of a 71 442.". Do it, great idea! But consider finding a highly recommended engine-machine shop in your area to refresh the 71 350. And or if budget allows consider new heads if available? Take your time, do a nice job & Good luck, Ol'e Bob.

A 350 Olds is a direct swap for a Olds 307. Find a machine shop that you trust, and knows their Oldsmobile stuff...that is critical. Also, bounce your engine part ideas off here...there's a bunch of us hard core Olds guys that will pass on some wisdom. In '71, they started bringing down the compression for emission laws. Check the big single digit number embossed on the bottom left side of the head...that will give you a point to cross reference.
