Hollywood does not know reality at all. That is why in general any thing said by Hollywood or Actors is basically useless BS. They live in a fantasy world. Movies mostly are just that BS for entertainment only not information. Go to your local car shows, cruise ins, drag races, roundy rounds to truly learn and experience the car culture.

The F&F movies has lame points, some good points just to get attention for the hobby. There are cheesey & good car movies for all generations. As Axisg noted about Corvette Summer for those of use who do remember (hey kids, its Mark Hamill!) Smokie & the Badit 3 was campy unless you were 10 & getting some early boob action. But think about it, car movies are some of the hardest movies to get the details right cause the cars have to be able to do feats that can't happen in the real world. They don't really make them for car guys, they make them for everybody else. If they can make it a popular movie, whats the harm of every nitrous system being called NOS? Alot of the stuff in the F&F movies are unreal & gave alot of guys false hope of what they might be able to do. But atleast the did show some muscle cars in them dispite their fates. It would be nice to have a modern car movie that shows real action, have honest details in the script, be made for car guys.

Thing is the guy did zero research for the movies. And I don't remember reading about any kids killed from copying stunts from corvette summer like they did from the fast series like that goofy part where they drive civics under semis.

I completely adore the F&F franchise. I have seen every movie in theatre, and cannot wait to see this next one too.

I remember leaving the first movie (with my girlfriend at the time) with all the fart cans blaring and FWD clutch dumps going on in the parking lot; there was nothing like the feeling of firing up a big black American muscle car (my MCSS) and rolling out. An impression was left.

Pontiac was actually sued in the 1980's because some idiots bought a TA, got drunk and crashed it and the Suit claimed Pontiac's support of Smokey and the Bandit and Hooper, etc. were the reason. Pontiac was "Getting Rich" off of promoting dangerous and criminal behavior.

It made all three network's newcast's because it fit their narrative of a need for an ever expanding nanny state.

Here is a link to a NYT clipping about the settlement

Yet none of the movies over glorified theft throughout a 7 movie series. And did the guys in the firebird die?

When you die you generally get less than when you are injured. The Drunk driver who ran the TA into a pole at 90 mph actually testified in the trial that the movies made him do it, but he didn't sue GM for $50 Million, the paralyzed passenger that wasn't wearing a seatbelt (it was 1980) that was ejected through the T-tops sued.and got a house and some cash (probably blew it all) in a GM settlement. I'm sure 10 seconds before the drunk, he freely got into the car with, hit the pole, he was having the time of his life.

The lawsuit was basically claiming that 200-220 hp cars were "unsafe" because they were "too powerful".

Some people are just stupid. Better off without em. Lest they start breeding and creating more idiots.

Drinking and driving were legal in Texas at the time of the Trans Am lawsuit, There were "drive thru liquor stores" into the 1990's.

I'm sure GM settled because they were worried about getting a jury of idiots that thought "well I drink and drive and I never had the need to drive 90 mph so it must be the car's fault".

Texans were pretty braindead back them. Today the suit would be instantly thrown out of court.
