Correct, and no. Down here they literally crumble to pieces from the sun and heat. I've had it happen to a few GM vehicles of mine, most recently my s10 just had the bezel, grilles, vents, everything break in to pieces while trying to replace them from being cracked already. The foam backed vinyl skin of the dash was cracked all over and I glued it back down with permatex super glue.

One of my old silverados is still riding around with no dash because it crumbled away over the years.

In any vehicle I buy that has a decent dash I get a dash cover and use a sun shade in the windshield.
